Default The Bimini Bay casino/cruise ship

Well it's official, Bimini as many of use know it is now gone. And how about the people that own homes in Bimini Bay, which is not called Bimini bay anymore? They bought a home with the thought of the place being a private community where everyone knows each other.

This is sure going to put an end to that. Now there will be thousands of people roaming around private homes. And at 50 bucks for the ship ride over there will certainly be no limit to the type of people going over there. Everyone from slime bag criminals to multi millionaires will be roaming the place. But at 50 bucks I suspect there will be a magnitude of lower class people going over there.

That sucks....I would be beyond pissed if I fell for their initial sales pitch and bought one of those houses.

If I didn't like the Big Game so much I would agree with you 100%. The south island still has the old Bimini feel. The north island has been going through changes ever since Bimini Bay started construction.

The north island is going to become dangerous now. Thousands of gamblers on the island means lots of cash on the island and that will no doubt draw in pick pockets and armed thugs. Think about it, the criminal spends 50 bucks for a ride to the island, spends the day robbing people and gets on the evening ship back to Miami.

Sad to see this. I like many of yall here was fortunate enough to see Bimini before the casinos and resorts. Was gonna try to make a trip over there this summer before my cruising card expired but seeing this and hearing all the negatives (thugs and crime) I may stay away. I like West End and it is convienient for me but Bimini just always struck me as a much better boating weekend destination.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The people in the commercial looked nothing like criminals and thugs.

Really does suck. I spend 90% of my trip on south Bimini, but I'm sure there are going to be rental jet skis and banana boats and para sailing out in the water now to disturb the boating experience as well.

Last time I cleared customers the agent said there is a plan to develop a large housing project on south Bimini to house many north biminites and staff for Bimini bay. Needless to say the locals (who I adore and admire) are not happy with the goings on in Bimini.

The fast ferry is quite an eyesore while on the hook just outside of the cut. The tenders run passengers straight to Bimini bay bypassing the locals and their shops. Two things could happen, like all of the previous entrepreneurs the project will fail leaving the locals in the wake or the owners have deep enough pockets to make it work. I've been going to Bimini since the early 80's and have seen many changes. I hope that the islands will be a place where I can continue to enjoy multiple summer trips and a place my kids can continue to enjoy for 50+ years to come.

I feel privileged the Bahamians allow me to enjoy their country and do my best to show my appreciation every time I cross. Unfortunately not all Americans feel the same as I.

What is it really costing to run this operation, what's this going to be like in the winter? It's the dead of summer and it's calm, what's it going to be like when the winds blowing twenty out of the north for weeks? What is it going to be like after a few tropical storms? Bimini is not Nassau, there's no harbor for this ship, everything comes to an end in Bimini.

Where do all of these people check into customs/imm? If at Big Game, say goodbye to recreational boaters going over to Bimini when they have to wait 3 hours to check in.

This is great for Sands.....

Horrible for everything else....

Thanx CAPO'S...... For having so much class......

In the winter months is probably when this ferry thing will do best. Reason being because all the snow birds are in Miami to escape the snow and this ferry/casino gives them something to do for the day. Also in the winter months I'm sure the ferry will be used by home owners as a means of transportation to and from the island. That $50 ticket on the ship is much cheaper than the fuel it takes to run any boat over. And when the seas are nasty this ship will still cross.

I was hoping for a ferry to Bimini, but not one owned by the company that is destroying the island. The ferry concept is a nice one, easy safe crossings to and from the island. It would be nice to run the boat over and the wives and kids can meet up by ferry.

The passengers will check in with customs at the port of Miami just like they would on a normal Bahamas cruise. Once on the ship they are cleared with Bahamas customs and immigration. The ship passengers will not be standing in line at the local customs and immigration office in Bimini.

And yeah I agree with you on the Capo family starting this shit storm. They screwed the locals and now since selling out to "Resorts World" they screwed over everyone that bought a million dollar home in Bimini Bay. I refuse to buy anything from Eldorado Furniture because of Bimini Bay.

the passengers are not being cleared on board, from what i understand. they are being cleared in bimini and causing major delays.

i have heard from BB owners that some of the crowd seems to be undesirable. that would be terrible.

and i dont blame the capos and his many non-cuban investors that built the place. i blame the government for allowing it. they ultimately are the people in charge of safeguarding their country and their resources.

The CAPO family has no class. PERIOD.

I could care less about how many non-cuban investors they have. I have plenty of Cuban friends. Has nothing to do with where they came from.

The bottom line is money. When money rules your life, you have no class.

Wow, Im not sure how I feel about this.

Part of me hates the idea of a peaceful Bimini being destroyed and inundated with individuals who do not appreciate Bimini for its natural beauty and what it has to offer in its natural state (why I go there).

Thats why gambling in the desert was such a good idea, love the idea of vegas.

On the other hand, I am happy as I have some relief as I was scared when Genting proposed resorts world Miami, and now that thay have shifted their focus I am somewhat relieved that they have decided to relocate that kind of atmosphere away from my home.

Its like a pick one of two evils kind of thing.

Don't think the Herald project is over, eventually they will get the gambling license and build that huge hotel/casino there. Just a matter of time

so the ferry is a ro/ro style with a ramp so you can take your boat over. the video said they can take 1000 boats over, but the old "Discovery" that went to Freeport took about 15 forty foot containers so I can't imaging this ferry can hold more than 25 boats or so....

In my opinion this thing will fail because:

1. Sun Cruz failed because locals could go to Hard Rock for free, why pay and go on a boat?
2. We don't have enough population in south florida to provide a constant flow of passengers in order to support the daily cost of this ship.
3. The puny casino at Bimini Bay will be no destination when compared to Atlantis or the new casino they are building in Nassau.
4. Putting rough numbers together, if a general cargo ship costs $10,000 per day, with a small crew of maybe 20 foreigners, this high speed ship burns more fuel and probably a higher grade of fuel so therefore, I'm gonna just guess the ship costs $15,000 per day to operated (especially with higher paid casino crew members). Therefore, $15,000 divided by $49 per passenger fee = 300 passengers to break-even. 300 passengers each day? and with future plans to increase to 2 trips a day?

I just can't imagine this.
