Default tournaments in savannah

can anyone tell me how savannah is one of the biggest port cities in the nation, we have all these big marinas and two blue water tournaments which keep losing boats to bigger out of state tournaments and how we olny have one ska tournament and it counts as a south carolina tournament though it is the savannah salt water shootout? as big as savannah is and all the fishing gurus we have we should be able to host a tournament as big as the charleston harbor or big rock blue water tournaments and one as big as the jacksonville ska tournament

FishinGA,

Good questions......I can only offer a few excuses.

1) The distance to bluewater fishing grounds are extremely far (+80 miles)*from Savannah when compared to Chas. or Morehead, 60 and 40 mile respectively.

2) Sav really doesn't have an ideal Marina to hold this type of tournament, in terms of extra dockage, access, etc.* Docking downtown is ok but the boats get beat to hell on the public docks with the container ship traffic.

3) I really hate to say this but here it goes anyway - there aren't a lot of king or bluewater fishermen in Sav when compared to those other cities.

4) There is a lack of companies and people that want to make the long term investment in establishing a successful GA KMT since the southerm KMT's are so well established.

yeah but the bluewater and kingfisherman here should also be able to fish and not have to trailer boats everywhere. bahia blue held the bluewater tournament 2 or 3 years ago and it pi$$ed people off because they were asked to move their boat. now dont get me wrong i wish bahia blue still held it there but..... i guess they arent

its ture that the distance to get offshore is greater in savannah but if you have the boat and everything its really not that big of a deal to make the extra 15 miles or so, and theres really not an ideal marina to house a big tournament but we do have some that can host a tournament but just because your in the tournament doesnt mean you have to keep your boat their.

well not all the boats are goin to show up at the same time and when they do it doesnt take that long to weigh in a fish or you can do what the saltwatewr shoot out does it have the boats parade in the river and drop off the fish and someone to weigh it in

if people would just put to action this idea it could be a reality, because how do u think the ska was started, it was just a couple guys in a gradge that had the idea for a fishing tournament and it grew and grew into what it is today

then it just like what adam said in my governer's cup post because our blue water run is a logn way for center consoles even though they do it and then the weather if its 5-6 ft seas and they dont call the tournament what you going to do??? kingfish on the other hand yes we should have more you could probaly e-mail the ska and get more tournaments done around here if u honestly wanted to... if you are talking about making your own tournament league yea could could get pl in there it would probaly be slow at first then gradually grow. but then you arre goin to have to pay the marna again for holdng it sooo where has your money gone?
