Default RE: Need HELP w/FL cruiseship port!!!

We had a Bob Bundy at Manchester, great Basketball player like 6'5", Bill Maravich B'ball, Larry Johnson, (Baseball) Ray Young,Bob Yancy,Jim Andrews, Tom"scrappy" Jordan, Paul Schnitzer, Brenda Bollinger, Carol Bangle,Buddy Bangle,Cary Berger, wish I had my old school yearbook! My hang out was Bills on Belt Blvd. I was a "gear head" then, I worked in Harrison's Texaco on Belt Blvd across from Southside plaza , we used to "cruise" from Bills to Shoneys on belt blvd, and the old bowling alley looking for street races. Then we would head to the Blvd. Bills, VA BBQ across the old nickel bridge. I remember a couple of events at the fair grounds, "battle of the bands". Great memories, I drove out Belt Blvd a couple of years ago and everything has changed, the old Bills was a car stereo shop!! I was in the Broad St Bills sept 04, for a visit and to pick up some sauce to take home We probably crossed paths sometime in the mid 60's , amazing how this can be a small world

A little story about Bob Bundy! He went to the SAME elementary school I did. His Dad was in the Army(?) and they moved to Germany at some point. When they moved BACK, he was in "Manchester school district territory" and went THERE - instead of Huguenot! So, WE would have had him if it wasn't for the "military"!

Our "equal" to Bob was David Jordan (6'2" or so) - David and Bob were about the 2 TALLEST in the whole area back then. ALAWYS "bumping" on the court - a real "treat" to watch them!

We ALSO had "Pat Allen" (basketball) - about 5'6" and FLATFOOTED! BUT, he scored 54 POINTS in ONE game once! That "record" went for a LONG time, I think?

HOWEVER, David was a little on the clumsy side, do to his height. Our coach found out BOB'S coach was getting him to lift weights to help with the coordination - sooooooooooo, he got David doing it, too! Really helped make up for the difference in height!

Funny thing is that in TODAY'S high school basketball, NEITHER one might be TALL enough to make the team!

I DO remember the "Maravich" name from back then - was he related to "Pistol Pete"?

Don't recognize any of the other names - did Bob Yancey have a sister - "Penny"? Did Jim Andrews have a brother - Gene?

Did you know a "Chris Whitely/Whiteley" (female)? Real light blonde hair?

I think I remember where Harrison's was - next door to the "Kelly's" - right AT the "circle"? Did they do any "towing" for the City or Chesterfield police?

Yep - we used to do the "figure 8" between Bill's and Shoney's!

The "Plaza Bowl" (duckpins!) closed down MANY years ago, but about 3-4 years ago, someone re-OPENED it and had it up and running! Then, it closed down again, and now I think is a "hip-hop"-type nightclub! I use to go to that bowling alley a LOT - before the "Ten Pin Coliseum" was built just down the road!

I have not been on that part of the Boulevard in 6-8 years, probably - VERY SAD to see what has happened to it. But that's a good example of what happens when the City of Richmond "annexes" real estate around here!

Oh - I DID get both of your "PM's" - sorry I didn't get back to this thread before now!

Thanks for the memories!

Regards,

Just a little update ...

Talked with my son last night and he has ALREADY "booked" a BONE FISHING trip (for TWO!) through a guide in Cozumel!

The ship will be in Cozumel from about 8A.M. 'til about midnight, so they will have plenty of time for about a 6-hour fishing trip!

He's NEVER been bone fishing before, so it should be QUITE a thrill for he and the "wife" - "Tara" LOVES to fish and we got her a rod & reel for her birthday a couple of years ago!

ALSO, he has a friend in Miami that has a condo available about 20min. from the airport and about 15mi. from the Port - they will be using that for the night before the cruise!

I didn't know about this before, but Corey (my son) just found out about it last week!

I'm STILL going to print this info for him so he'll have some info about the locations they visit!

Thanks, again for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,

Bruce W. no problem about the response, I'm not too literate with PC's so I wasn't sure if i did the PM right.

bob yancey only had an older brother, Jim Andrews had an older sister, didn't know her. He moved to Ftl. with me in 1969 and became a charter boat captain in Boynton Bch.Fl. I lost touch with him about 15 yrs ago. Ya Harrisons was near Kelly's just past the circle. Ah Kellys, best $0.15 burgers around, better than McD's
Great walk down memory lane

That's good news for Corey about the condo, good deal, and the bone fishing, that's a great experience for a newbie, like hunting and fishing. the water's beautiful in cozumel, they may be going in a panga, neat boats, lots of them in Mex. I rode one once from Isla Mujeres to cancun in 5 ft swells on the beam, it was like a thrill ride.

Congrats on the wedding and best of luck to both
