Default trailering 9'-6" beam vessel

Looking at a Parker 2520, has a 9'-6 beam, some would say oversize load permit required for trailering this size boat. Others say as long as width between trailer tires does not exceed 8'6" no special permit is required to tow. I would have to go from GA through ALA then to FL to trailer this boat. Anybody know regulations regarding this size boat through these states? thanks

I can speak for Florida - you do need a permit - your boat has the same beam as my Grady. But, it's cheap, $20, and good for a year. Only drawback is you are not supposed to drive at night.

you probably want to listen to the guy before me but ive lived in florida all of my young 22 years..... my dad now has a 330 express grady with an 11'6 beam on a trailer before that he has the marlin and sailfish....... never had a permit ..... never had a problem knock on wood..... as long as your cautious when trailering they wont mess with you in florida unless you're involved in an accident then insurance companies are gonna gripe just my 2 cents

I would not want to take the chance of towing without a permit. LE and FHP are starting to crack down on wide load violaters. Multiply your $20 permit by 10 and that is the fine you will pay in some counties for receiving your Certificate of Achievement (citation).

$22 permit or $220 fine? Perfectly clear to me! Permit!!

Actually, I don't. I am retired at the present time and don't like to fight the all the idiots at boat ramps on the weekends. It is a zoo here both at the ramps and on the water.

I do yard work on weekends and fish during the week. Nice!

If the beam of your boat exceeds 8'6" you are required to have an "Oversize Permit." Don't know about the other information you posted (ie. width between trailer tires) as that may be a requirement of a state other than Florida.

One of the above Posters who said your chances of getting a ticket for towing an oversize boat are very slim, but if you get a ticket that would be the least of your worries. Why? Chances are if you ever do get a ticket for towing an oversize boat it would be because you were involved in an accident, and if this were to occur you better have deep pockets and hope that no one was injured, because if there was an injury, regardless of who was at fault/who was cited, if you are towing illegally and your insurance is void.

Think about it. You come up to the stop sign and the car in front of you stops to fast for you too, and whacko you rear end him/her and there are injuries in the car in front of you resuting in a multi-million dollar lawsuit with you cited for read-ending AND towing an oversize load without a permit. But more importantly, since you opted not to bother getting that $20 permit (or renewing it if you had one) you now have no insurance coverage because you knowingly violated a state law. Kiss your a**ets good by.

actually your insurance is not void unless the insurance company has stated a clause on your exact policy...... when im not deckhanding on a boat i work with my dad at his body shop he's owned for 25 years and insuarnce company must pay....... yeah you your ticket from the cops is going to be a lot bigger..... and i was talking from personal expierence having towed boats or been with my dad towing boats over 9'6 for 18 years and never had a problem anyways i am not diasagrreing with you about the permit if it makes you feel better then great but DOT told us we would need a chase car since the boat we now own thats on a trailer is 11'7 beam
