That's one thing I still haven't checked. Whether I need a new or not, when ran on temp. gas can, I still have the same problem except the bulb primer gets firm.

Btw, It is a 2 stroke engine Johnson 150, and carbs have been rebuilt 2 years ago.

it does not sound like a fuel feed related problem to me. Sounds as if you still need some carb work. The floats may be stuck open, which is why the bulb never gets hard. Carbs not set right also explains the varied RPM and the "coughing" of you engine. I know you said they were rebuilt two years ago, but it does not take long for them to get trash in them, and not run right. If I was you I would pull of the carbs and do a dynamite job rebuilding them and see where that gets you. Sounds as if you have done all you can on the fuel feed side. and the only things on the feed side that could cause a problem like this you have already checked. Hope this helps.

Not sure about a phototach but I used to have a small IR temp gauge to check bearing temps. I'll look around for it and let you know.

I may have a new addition to dock. It is an 18' pontoon boat with electric motors. Yep, it has twin electric motors. The plan is to eventually replace the electric motors with an outboard and this will become Robby's boat. Right now I need to find a trailer I can use to move it from the Alpharetta area to the Lake. Looking for a used trailer if I can find one. Please let me know if you hear of anything. Should be an interesting project. Robby cannot wait to get this cocktail cruiser up to Clemson.

Scott,

You guessed right. Boat is coming out of Lake Windward. Friend of mine is looking at a new boat for the lake and needed to get a slip.

Bob

Was out last Saturday cruising with some friends, fish bustin on the surface and striper boats hauling fish in.. looked like the striper were really active. Saw some good action at the mouth of 6 mile creek and just north of 6 mile.

There were stripers busting off my dock last Saturday afternoon. I pulled up in the driveway and could see them all over the cove. Of course by the time I got down to the dock with a rod the activity had gone away. Did have one big swirl at a topwater just off the back of the pontoon boat.

Robby and I are headed to Alabama on Saturday to try and pick up a trailer for the new project pontoon. On Sunday we are taking the other pontoon over to Bald Ridge to have new cables installed. My brother also has found a new project boat that I think he is bringing over to the house. Place is going to start looking like a boat yard! So should be around the lake then if any of you guys are up.

Anyone else headed up for the Holiday weekend? I will probably head up tomorrow morning. May have some things to do at the garage at the top of the hill so blow your horn or call on the VHF if you come by.

Have a good weekend.

I headed out last Sat mid-day looking for stripers, never found a school - just singles on my fishfinder, after searching 6 mile, 2 mile, mud and flat creeks, I headed down to Young Deer and finally ran into some fish... dropped down some live bluebacks - had one nailed but no hookup and the fish were gone... like ghosts.. i never relocated them. Anchored up in a cove and had a swim a few cold beverages... and called it a day.
