What time did you come by? I was up last night also. A buddy of mine has one of the best looking boats on the lake (IMO) a 24' Hacker Craft. He had an engine problem early and I meet him at Holiday yesterday at 5:30 pm to tow him to a ramp. The boat was picked up by the Hacker Company and is being taken back to NY to be refurbished and updated. Can't wait to see it when it returns in about 6 weeks. I got back to the dock about 8:00 pm. Lake was really nice. I wish I had a chance to go for a longer boat ride.

Looks like we will have a crowd of family at the house this weekend for Father's Day, but I should be around. I am going out of town tomorrow and will not be back until Friday. In fact, I may go straight to the lake...

Well....its looks like we are finally going to get a good weather weekend this week. The lake will probably be crazy with everybody all pent up with all the rain we have had.

I managed to get my entire boat waxed last weekend during the rainout. So that jobs done for a while.

The high lake level sucks. Its hard to get the dogs ashore so they can do their duty.
Our usual island spot has no beach left so we will be exploring around. Its a good time to try new spots.

Later,
LakeBum

I'll take high water over the "bathtub ring" any day of the week...although some people's docks are under water.* Also, seems to be a lot of styrofoam dock blocks floating around too...I dodged a number of them on Sunday.

Yeah, be careful out there. Noticed a bunch of trash of all types yesterday after all the rain. Saw several tree branches that could do damage at speed. Also saw a 2x6 floating just below the surface.

I kinda like the lower water levels myself. Opens more beach area and also cuts down on the traffic.

I prefer it around 1068 ft. Plenty of beach for all, less traffic in the coves, and due to the dry weather I don't have to cut my grass as often.......

I went by your place Monday afternoon around 2pm. I looked at Hacker's web site and agree with you that Hacker 's are really classic lake boats that are just so nautical you have to like them. I probably won't get back up to the lake until Friday and I expect similar crowd of family on Father's day as well.. In re lake depths, I will have to move my dock's brow up on the bulkhead if it goes up another 6 inches so I'm for it to drop a foot or so. My dog would have better access as well.

Good to see you'll last weekend. Next we need to try getting everybody together at the same time. Stop by any time.

Brian - Thanks for the ride in your new boat. Think you got a good one! Sure rides better than my older Grady.

Brian,

It sounds like you did make it by Bob's last weekend. If it was Sat., sorry I missed you. I stopped by for a while early Sat. afternoon. His dock swing sure is a nice spot. Thanks Bob, we'll do it again. I met some of the club members for a raft-up after that. Early evening a rain shower chased a lot of people off the lake and it calmed down. It sure was a pleasant day. I put the boat back on the trailer about 7:15.

Just checked the schedule for this weekend. Looks like the Lake Lanier Islands Fireworks show is Monday night. The good news is since many have to work on Tuesday the crowd maybe smaller. The bad news is the "dodge boat" show after the fireworks is a sight to see and fewer boats means less entertainment.

I'll probably go up tomorrow (mid-afternoon I hope) and stay until late Monday or early Tuesday. WE will like have a crowd at the house but if you are in the area swing by.

Have a good Holiday.

Well....There goes the lake level again.

Bob, this weekend I will come by and tie up to your front porch.....

I still would rather be here than Florida right now though.

So Lakebum, looks like you guys might have given up what was left of your beach and just anchored out last weekend. Yesterday's l. evel was 1071.85 as reported on Corps website. Bet we get to 1072.5 next couple of days.

Slow day today so I looked up some history on lake levels (BTW official level today was 1072.3). Did you know the first official reading was taken on 2/8/56 at 960.35? The highest reading was 1077.15 on 4/14/64. Can you imagine the lake about 6' higher than we are used to seeing it?

Told you I was bored today. Next time I am bored I will check the lowest level since reaching full pool.

With the on coming bad weather predictions, and the lack of beach we decided to just raft up for a while on Saturday. It was an outstanding lake day. To bad we cannot string two nice days together on a weekend.

The part that amazes me about the dam is the flood spill way is at 1085. That level would do drastic damage around the lake.

Of course it would take a series of several hurricanes to hit us for that to happen. The river basin would have to be so flooded they could not let water out of the lake, while taking another direct hit from another hurricane.

Hmmmm....doesn't sound so far fetched all of sudden.

I think I am going to sell my boat and buy an arc.

My guess for the lowest on recent record would have to be 1052-1054...if memory serves me correct it happened not too long ago.* Maybe during the late 90's drought?* I remember at one point there were only 12 ramp lanes open on the entire lake...

This morning the lake was at 1072.61...and based on the flooding thats occurred in Cobb and Douglas, my guess is the USACE is going to be somewhat limited in releasing water for the next few days.* Good luck finding a beach this weekend...

This is the "official" website - http://www.lanier.sam.usace.army.mil/

but I have found an interesting unofficial site - www.cocktailcove.com. I swaear the guy in picture 64 of the "Photo Gallery - most viewed" is not me to the best of my recollection. And I would hate to forget something like that...

I posted a couple of photos of our trip to the lake a few days ago in the photo forum. We went in the middle of the week and the lake was almost empty.

JJG,
Looks like you guys had a great time. Tubing and general goofing off is so much easier when the lake is not crowded.

My sister and her kids are coming in this weekend and we plan on staying on the lake until Wednesday. I can't wait to be on the lake in the middle of the week and have it pretty much to ourselves.
