Took a jet ski ride last night. I saw your dock Bob, with the duck statue. I will stop by sometime over the weekend and say hi.

A houseboater already has the Shady Grove island locked up. Nobody there, but the boat is tied up and the lights are out.

Hopefully I will be able to beat the rush to our normal spot.

Bob's Cay & Parthery'

Motor trouble was a shift problem. Stbd motor wouldn't go into fwd gear after water pumps replaced in both motors. Ran around on one motor all day Sat. Fortunately I had enough power to plane on one motor. Dockside Cafe atmosphere was excellent.

I took the boat back to Bradley on Mon. He called today and said there is nothing wrong and it worked fine. He shifted it about 1000 times and it worked great. Something repaired itself between the boat ramp and Bradley. Go figure.

Guys,

Passed the sea trial with flying colors...so now I can let everyone know that its a 99 GW 228 Seafarer with a 200 ox66.* Couple of minor issues which will be corrected between now and next week when I pick it up.* East Coast has a trailer on order for me which will be ready on the 2nd.* Pics will follow once its on the trailer...

Electronics were rather rudimentary and will be the first thing to be updated.* The ICOM 402 at $109 from BW will be tough to beat.* Looking for recommendations on a combo GPS/FF to replace the Lowrance X28.* Either a Garmin 178c or Lowrance 337...

Sounds like everybody is getting ramped up for the big amateur weekend coming up. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Pathery - Sounds like a great boat! Hope you enjoy the upgrade. Can't beat a Grady. FYI - I really like my Garmin 188c fishfinder/chartplotter combo. I've got a chip that has a great map of Lanier with topo and everything.

Bokat - Hope you are enjoying flying this weekend as it should be a smoother ride up there than on the lake. Glad to hear your motor cured itself. Wish mine could do that. Glad to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere at Dockside. It is a fun place to meet and hang out and I'm sure you understand why Robby enjoys going over for a hamburger...

Lake Bum - I actually ended up out on the lake last night. A friend of mine was just getting his boat (IMO he owns one of the best looking boats on the lake, a 1993 Hackercraft) ready for the season last night and I went over to Holiday to help. Left my dock about 5:30 pm and returned about 8:00. I did see a PWC on the beach on the larger of the two islands SW of the entrance to the cove. Was that you? My brother has a buddy that actually has a business helping people with houseboats. One of the services is running them out to beaches and setting them up for the weekend. Sounds like he might have beat you to the location.

Maybe I'll see ya'll this weekend. Going to try and get up for most of it, so I should be around.

Bob,
It was good meeting you. Come over this summer sometime and show us your ringer horse shoe skills.

I have never heard of a service that runs houseboats out for people. Thats pretty funny. I guess people will pay for nearly anything.

Please don't tell your brother about our spot.......

I will be out of town this weekend so don't look for me, but I will be right there every weekend the rest of summmer.......that's if summer ever gets here of course.

Later,
LakeBum

Well the weather last weekend wasn't that great was it? Pretty much a wash out and it doesn't look much better for this weekend.

Nice to meet you too LakeBum. Looked like you guys were having fun no matter what the weather.

The guy that runs the "Houseboat Service" (a friend of my brother's), does a lot of things. He washes them, pumps them out, fills them up, gets provisions, makes & schedules repairs, etc. The set up service is just one part. I guess there are some folks that just don't like running thier boat. If you notice at most marinas, a large number of boats never move. I refer to them as Dock Potatoes.

I will not mention your spot to them, but I'm sure they already know about it...

Bob, I'm back

Pics are up in the Photo section...I'm shooting to be out on Sunday...the weather report shows improving conditions.

Bokat...I think I passed you around 2 today on I-75 between Gainesville and Ocala...I hope the weather improves for the crossing on Sunday.* Have a great time.

Just finished installing the LMS-337...ran into a little trouble getting through the rigging tube.* Plus, the weather is now not cooperating, again...

Going to run the boat up to Boating Atlanta and let Lee have it for the week...going to have a couple things checked out/maintenanced...

Lets try*for next weekend?

Weather looks iffy for this weekend, but I'm gonna try and go. Probably head up early Saturday afternoon and come back Sunday afternoon. I'll leave the radio on so give me a call.

Bob's Cay and Parthery,

I recently stumbled into this part of THT and from previous posts I see that you two seem to be operating fairly close to my location on Four Mile. I have a 21' Seaway Seafarer/115 hp Suzuki which is a Maine built boat with Lobster lines and I am just a big boat fan with some time on my hands. I'd like to swing by, introduce myself and swap stories with you guys sometime. You occasionally mention Shady Grove island but I would need a lat/lon to find it. I ,too, may come up Saturday afternoon or Sunday depending on the weather forecast. Thanks. Harv

Harv, welcome to the forum...

I usually launch from either "6 Mile" or "Charleston".

Whats the name of your boat?* I'll call you on the radio when I get out there..

Although not painted on the transom yet (as I am still having hard time officially deciding on a name and there is not much room anyway), I will answer to "Lucky Lud" on 16. Harv

Harv,

Welcome aboard. My boat is located at our house in the cove between Shady Grove Campground and the "9" navigation marker. We are in the narrow finger cove to the left. Tan boathouse with a green roof, a boat ramp, and a "duck" statue. Stop by sometime.

Try me on the radio - "Bob's Cay"

Hi boys,

I'm baaaaack. Not totally, yet. I just got back to Stuart today (Sun.) and I'm on my brother-in-law's computer. I will probably be back in town on Tues.

Brian, sorry I didn't see you or I would have called. We were kind of in a hurry. I had someone following me down to Stuart and was probably distracted. You should have called me. Wx was terrible going down, from about where you saw me all the way to Stuart. Hard rain, wow. Your new boat looks nice, I hope to see it in person soon.

Crossing to Port Lucaya was hard too. We left last Sun. morning out of Stuart and ran down to Palm Beach to meet the rest of the club. What should have taken 1 1/2 hrs. took 2:20 and I broke one of the pipes that braces my hard top. Had to refuel in Palm Beach because we used so much on the way down. We left Palm Beach and it took about 4 1/2 - 5 hrs. to go 70 miles. It was the roughest crossing of the 4 I've made. We were able to fish Mon. - Wed. but then TS Arlene stepped in and we stayed tied to the dock for 3 days. There were some 60' sportfishers that didn't even go out. The winds died down a little today so we decided to leave. The wave heights were about the same as the day we went over but it was a following sea so it was not as bad. Six boats of the 15 came back today, the rest are still there and are planning on returning Mon. It was a hard trip but we managed to win the tourney. We had a lot of small YT snapper and some of the more notable catches were a 32 lb and 23 lb Kingfish, a 30 lb Amberjack and a small Yellowfin tuna and a small Dolphin. Customs was a hassle on both ends so I'm glad to be back.

Maybe I can sit on some calm water on the lake this weekend after a trip to Bradley's again. Stbd motor still acting up. The shifting is a little stiff and I get a check eng. light and tone at rpm's below 1000.

I gotta go clean the salt off, catch you guys later.

Bo-glad you made it back safely...been watching the weather and wondering about you guys...a following sea helps but I imagine it was rather lumpy coming back.* Looking forward to seeing the pics on Thursday night...assuming the rest of the crew makes it back tomorrow.

There were a ton of boats traveling down the Turnpike and 75 as I was headed back north...just happened to see a GW with twins and a big old JRC on top being pulled by the pickup and it registered that it was you...your cell number is somewhere on my laptop.* For what its worth I didn't get out at all last weekend or yesterday but today I was hell-bent and determined and..in between squalls..it was actually nice out there.

Bob...stopped by your dock around 3:30 today but you weren't around..there were a surprising number of rigs out there given the conditions.* Just as well...the cabin needs to be reorganized...an adjustment to the trailer guide posts....and everything needs a thorough bath before I show it off.* We'll try again next weekend.

Brian,

Went up Saturday and "practiced" boathandling in high winds! Actually had a nice ride for several hours. Got up this morning and weather did not look like it was going to get much better so I came on back. My son is going on a two week school trip to the Keys so I had some stuff to do to get him ready.

Hope we get a better break in the weather next weekend.

I didn't make it up over the weekend due to the rain but I went up today and it was great weather and went for a spin and located your house and dock. What a nice creek and house. Corp line is really close to the water . Your place is a short 7 minute run from my place on 4 Mile. If you are out and about sometime go just past 3 fm and turn to starboard and I'm the third dock to port.
