Random Quote: Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.
Made it up today for about 3 hours. South end was like a bath tub with a bunch of little kids in it making waves. My kids liked it though. I will be back out again mid lake tomorrow fising with the kids for crappie. we will see how that goes

I went up to the 6-mile area around 12:00 and looked for some of you guys. Thought I might catch somebody launching and just say hello. Didn't see anybody I recognized, and started heading back home when I passed Parthery on Hwy. 306. Looks like a different shade of gray on the back of the Double Trouble V. Hope the initial splash was a success and hope to see some of you on the lake soon. The Knotn' Kansas is still in Destin, but will be making a trip home soon for some maintenance.
Brian, I would have, but I still had a few errands to run and that traffic on 306 took a while to get through. Glad the maiden voyage was a success! Are you planning on a hardtop or T-top like Double Trouble IV? Electronics? The boat looked sweet on the trailer! Good Luck with her.
The electronics are (after a couple uses) actually better than I had anticipated. Garmin 182C with the GSD20 black box sounder, as well as a separate 320C color fishfinder. Built in stereo w/ Sirius and an ICOM 302 VHF w/ Digital Antenna. I picked up the inland lakes Bluechart and the East Coast of FL chip came with the boat. Have to figure out the settings on it though....this is my first foray into Garmin equipment and its very different from the Lowrance and Furuno stuff I've had in the past.
At the moment, only the VHF is flush mounted, and its in a lousy place. (at my knees)....additionally, it appears that someone tried to program their DSC in twice, so now I have to either remove it and send it back to ICOM, or buy a new one. I need to see how much cutting and fairing I would have to do to fit a 422 in there. Further, the GPS is an internal antenna model, which eliminates flush mounting it. I think I am going to look for a 2210 or a 3010, flush mount it, and use the existing black box sounder and transducer.
I'm going to order the oil change adapter and kit from SIM, so anyone with a Yamaha 4 stroke (yourself, JupiterEdge, JiminGA) is welcome to borrow it.
Brian, Sorry I missed seeing your new boat. We took out of town guests to the Aquarium on Saturday and I was home today removing wallpaper, spackling, sanding and painting a bathroom Would much rather have been out boating. I am very curious, what type of boat did you buy?My guess is a Grady Seafarer 228?
Brian, thanks for the offer on the oil change kit, but I bought the same kit from SIM last fall and it works great! If you haven't ordered one yet, you can borrow mine anytime. Now the oil filter is another animal in itself. Log any numbers with this new combo? Probably scoots pretty good. I wish I could've met up with you guys and had lunch. Where is Dockside? I haven't seen anybody since the boat show, maybe we all should get together one weekend soon up on the lake.
Dockside is at Holiday....they make a pretty good burger. It was packed yesterday.
Top speed looks like 46 at 5900 rpm with a full tank of gas. I won't pull away from you on the TN River, but we could make it interesting.
I may play around with a Mirage or Enertia prop if I can find a 17" somewhere. They pop up on eBay from time to time. I bought my last one on there for less than 1/2 of a new one.
I switched props since the River trip, (Rev 4's 19p) Lost a couple MPH, but not much! Love the handling around the docks in current and wind.
I have a 21p Mirage Plus in the garage for you to test if it would be of any help. ( don't have any idea of your prop req's).
I've been tied up remodeling my master bathroom - but I did get out on Saturday afternoon for a few hours. Its the first time I've been out since I ran into you and Bob a few weeks ago. It was windy, but the sun was out and it was very nice to be out on the water again. I'll be headed back down to Jupiter in a couple weeks for some Mahi fishing. From what I hear the kings are stacked up outside Jupiter as well -- so it should be tons of fun. I appreciate the offer to use your oil pump, I might just take you up on it. I'm with Mike when it comes to getting a filter off without making a mess. The 1st one who figures out how remove the oil filter without getting oil all over the place, needs toeducate the rest of us. I haven't tried on an outboard yet, but I haven't had much luck on my cars.
Angie and I are back down in Jupiter. The ocean has been pretty rough for fishing this week, mostly 2-4 with some 5ft waves. We've managed to go offshore fishing twice so far buthave been doing a good amount of inshore boating as well - so we're still having a great time .
This morning Angie caught her first fish, a nicedolphin. We hada doublehookup and she grabbed a rod and went to work! I posted some photos in the boating photo section. We've also caught a couple large bonita.. man those fish can fight.
Hopefully the seas will lay down and I'll have some more photos to share.
Thanks Bo! We went to Bare Bones in Manatee Pocket just a couple days ago. I'm glad you told me about that place. Great blackened Mahi Sandwich. We saw your brother in-laws Parker up on the davits as I motored by Sandsprit park. It must be nice to be able to live down here year round and only go out on the calm days. It poured rain on us on the way up to the Pocket. My lunch order was as follows: I'll have a blackened mahi sandwich, fries, slaw and a trash bag - "to make into a poncho"
Who is heading to the Lake for the Memorial Day weekend? I hope to be up there from Friday to Monday if all goes well. May have to take Robby to the airport some time on Sunday.
Seems like it has been forever since I have been up there between all the graduation stuff and an "unplanned" week long visit to the hospital. I had a cyst get infected on my neck that eventually sent me to the ER, 24 hours in ICU, several days on heavy antibiotic IV, and eventually surgery to drain the abcess in the cyst. To make matters worse, the infection was thought to have gotten into my artifical knee. If that happens, it is real bad news.
Any way, I'm better now and really in need of a trip to the lake. If you are up, stop by.
I think I'll take my IR up this weekend and assist in stirring up the lake. If you see me hang me a bird. Anybody know what the water level is? Any water under Balus Creek dock?
Sorry to hear about your medical woes Bob!. Hope all is well soon for you. We're gonna pass on getting up this weekend - our last Mem. weekend experience was not the best - waaaaayyy overcrowded IMO and we had the luck of being around some big boats that didnt have a clue about right of way.
BTW, FYI, we had a nice trip to Destin but weren't able to get out as long or as much due to sea conditions. Somes days it was 5 to 7s and thats way ouit of my league! We did score a few kings close in-shore (we could stay close due to the north wind) and also boated a nice snapper. At least we have some nice filets in the freezer to show for it!
