Went out for a bit on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Weather was good but did not find any fish. Developed a problem with the tilt on the motor on Wednesday and I'm going to try and get back up this weekend to try and fix. I will have the radio on if I'm up. I'll be on 16.
Won't be able to go to boat show, going sailfish fishing with club that weekend in Palm Beach. I was at the lake today (Sat.) and it was nice. The Mrs. and I cruised for a few hours in the late afternoon and came in about dark. I pulled an umbrella rig up in Flat Creek for about an hour. No bites but saw plenty of bait on the scope. I called Bob's Cay and Double Trouble on VHF but I guess you guys weren't up today. Maybe another day.
Yep. The other day I looked at a used one (2003). The colors weren't right so I passed on it. I found a good deal on a new one at Northpoint Chev. They needed to pump up their end-of-the- quarter/year numbers so they did pretty good on the price. It's a Pewter color w/gray leather int. 2005 2500 Crew Cab Duramax. I had to adjust the hitch ball height from my old reciever so I had it up at the Lake today where I keep my boat. I pulled the boat around for a few miles to make sure everything is going to work for the trip the Fl. It will pull a house, it's awesome, thanks for asking. Enjoy the lake this weekend.
Sounds like I'd rather be going with Bokat but I am leaving for the lake in a couple of hours. I have a problem with the tilt on the engine so I will be trying to take care of it this PM. IF all goes well, I'm going to try and go out on Sunday morning .
Check the Hammond's website this morning. Not much info but one report from mid week that trout seem to be the bait of choice now. I will certainly visit the new store before I head out.
Northpoint Chev. has a pretty good service dept...as for their sales dept...talked to them about a Tahoe sometime back but they couldn't get close to what I could buy it at from Jumper...ended up keeping the one I have.* When you go in for service, ask for Bob...he's one of us...22 Pro-Line CC - 200 Optimax...good guy.
Was up there today...water temp was about 55...fish were deep and "uninterested"..was still a great day to be out.*
I have the tilt "problem" narrowed down to the relay thanks to Andy @ SIM. He's been a big help. Now I want to talk to Yamaha about why a relay fails after 2 years and why the replacement is $250. I was able to use Andy's help to trim the motor up to the normal setting. Takes a bit longer to plane, but I can use the boat until I get the part and fix it.
Went out yesterday from about 8:30 am to noon. Stayed around Young Deer up to 4 Mile. Fished trout for awhile and trolled an umbrella. Caught 1 small spot on the umbrella. Not much activity.
Must have just missed you...got out about 1:30..stayed out til around 5 or so.*
Are you in the last cove on the right before you head around the bend into Young Deer, or is your cove one of the first ones once you enter Young Deer?
There is a large cove (bay) between the entrance to YDC and the Shady Grove Campground. The entrance is just east of the "9" marker on the Chattahooce. The main cove has three fingers that go back into creeks. We are in the finger cove on the left as you enter and the dock is on the south side.
You can find it by following the bass boats. They all seem to fish our dock. Maybe it is the Xmas trees under it. Added 6 more this weekend...
Bob if you don't mind me hitting those trees with a few tricks I want to bring my bass boat by for a while and hook up with some nice lanier spots myself. C&R only of course. I've been sinking several trees on the dead sea mudtoona the last few weeks getting ready for summer tourneys but would love a break from muddy ol altoona!
Fisherman for life - No problem "hitting" the brush piles. This year however I placed them in the slip rather than around the outside. I can tell you from diving around the dock in September that several trees are still there around the dock from previous years. The trees are mainly there to attract fish for my 10 nieces and nephews (ages 4-9) so please do not over fish. FYI - I caught a 6 lb spot last spring and a 20 lb stripper from the dock last spring so the fish are there.
I do have one thing to ask - please set a good example for your friends in bass boats. The major problem we have at the lake are "boaters" roaring up to the dock or running full speed out of the cove just a few yards from the boathouse. This is really a problem when the kids are swimming and causes damage to the dock and my boat which is kept in the water. Also it is always a pain to hear the boats pull up early Sunday morning and wake up everybody. In addition, I can not tell you the trash we have found on the dock; cans, cigarette butts, hooks, line, lures, etc.
So just help show others by being a bit courteous.
No problems from me Bob. I am always careful around swimmers and other peoples properties. Thanks for the invite and if you see an older blue ranger with a evinrude 120V please say hello. Parthery it's rediculously low to the point I can't launch at Little river anymore even with the shallow running bass boat. What was really crazy was driving over the east side on I-75 a couple weeks back and all of the water and mud was frozen solid. You don't see that on any more than ponds usually down here.
