Parthery, I really think it was white but with my eyes and memory who knows... Is your new home in the area?
Bottom job is going well. Two full coats on and going to Carolina coat a third. The dark blue color looks much better than the black. The project has been fun but this is likely the last time I try this. The sanding is a big mess. Still trying to get the crap out of my hands. Should be back in the water just before Xmas if all goes well.
I leave in the morning for Costa Rica to fish until next Tuesday. Look forward to my first sail or marlin.
I was up on the lake yesterday from 4 - 5:30. It was nice and sunny but cold. I am trying to get my cables that I just installed adjusted. They still need a little more work. Parthery, are you going to the ASWSC Christmas party? I can get the seat from you there if you are, otherwise I'll have to arrange another time to meet you and get it.
Uh Oh, wife is in a hurry to go out and I have to go with her. More later.
Brdawg..we just moved into Sandy Spgs from Alpharetta...I'm guessingyou keep the GW down on the coast?
Bo...the seat is now resting comfortably in my basement...I've unpacked the important stuff...tools...boat supplies...etc...not going to make the party as we have another one that the admiral already RSVPed us for....but PM me or give me a call and I'll get it to you.
May take a break from unpacking and go check on the boat tomorrow....haven't seen it in a couple weeks....going through a severe case of withdrawal...
JiminGA, Here is some info on HHI that my son-in-law passed on when I posed your question to him. He lives in Savannah and his parents live in HHI:
He may want to check out www.missjudycharters.com because she usually updates her fishing report weekly. It gets pretty quiet around here in the winter but some of the best days ive ever had have come smack-dab in the winter. black sea bass go crazy and a lot of guys like to catch those jumbo sheepshead at the near shore wreaks. the guys at http://www.hiltonheadboathouse.com/aboutus.html are very nice and knowledgeable--- and they are grady dealers as well. this is where we keep our boat, and they always have good advise. ask for the owner- he know where the fish are
I wish I could join you, it sounds like fun. Let us know how you do.
Parthery, you missed a great Christmas party last night. Not only do we have some fishing machines in this club but, as I discovered last night, we have some dancing machines too. You should plan on attending next year.
Harv, tell me what kind of boat you have again, I can't remember. One of the guys in my fishing club who has cruised the TN river several times this year was asking. I told him to let me know when he plans another trip. I will pass the date along to everybody here in case ya'll want to go. He usually goes several time each year.
Has anyone ever installed a Tempress Cam latch hatch (tempress.com) in the floor of their boat? I just ordered one for my Grady. I'm getting tired of working through a 6 in. opening. My oil tanks, fuel/water separators, fuel primer pumps and livewell pump are all under that part of the floor. As the boat ages I'm sure I'll need access to that area more frequently. The hatch is supposed to be watertight. I am going to pose this question on the Grady owners forum also.
I hope to see ya'll up at the lake. Lets put up the curtains and go!
Put up the curtains and went today...water temp is 53...but its not bad with the curtains down...spent about an hour or so out there.
JiminGA, when I came back, the guy in the next stall over was moving his RV out...apparently he has had enough of the mud splashing up from the rain...so you may be able to move in when you get the boat this week. For what its worth, although there was plenty of mud and clay splashed on the engine and the stern, the biggest mess was leaves which had blown in. By the time, I got to the ramp, most of them had blown out.
Bob, you back from Costa Rica yet? Where are the pics???
Thks Brian and Bo, We're headed to Columbia, SC early tomorrow to pick up the Grady and get her up to Lanier. I'll give the storage guy a call and see if I can go ahead and move into the vacated stall.
btw, I've found a couple THT members over in Beaufort and HHI who have offered to give us some "local advice" about rigging and fishing that area. THT sure makes a great network... everyone seems willing to help when advice is requested!
Brian, let's do try to get some of the gang together for the Boat Show. Would be fun.
Sure wish the weather report wasn't so gloomy for this coming weekend... was hoping to splash the boat
Bo, my boat was built in Maine by Seaway Boats. It is their 21' Seafarer model. More info available at http://www.seawayboats.com. I think my next road trip will be to warmer climates or next spring. Harv
Harv, I agree on the warmer climate. The friend of mine usually cruises the river in the summer. Last time I went with him was, maybe 3 - 4 years ago. We launched at a ramp upstream from Chatt. but downstream from the Chickamauga lock about 7 or 8 in the morning on a Fri. I trailered up the day before but he left ATL that same morning. We cruised downstream through the most scenic part of the river and went through the Nickajack lock. We stopped just downstream from the lock and had lunch and then continued down to Scottboro, AL to the Goosepond marina where we stayed for two nights and then came back on Sun. We had 6 boats on the trip and everyone spent the nights onboard except Kathy and me, we got a room. The rooms have a boat dock a short walk away so it worked out well. That's a pretty good way to do it and he will let me know when he is planning another trip. I will let everyone here know, also. I'm also starting to collect info on a GA. and/or SC. trip. With Brian's info we might be able to come up with a real nice short range cruise/fishing trip. Later.
Bo
I like the idea of the Savannah to Charleston trip as well.
The ramp at Thunderbolt (right on 80 as you cross over the ICW) is still there...go over the bridge and make a right...not sure about security though. We are down there the first weekend in January...I'll check into it then.
THT member DonnyR is an expert on the area between Charleston and Beaufort...I know he made the run with a couple buddies in an 18' Scout back in the fall...I think it was about 3 hrs or so. I'll PM him and ask him.
I'd bet we could easily have 1/2 dozen boats interested in making the trip....
A Charleston / Beaufort trip sounds real good to me as it looks like a 65 to 70 mile run. I would think we would have to wait for mid March or April for the weather to be suitable. I would also be game for a winter trip to a warmer location. Anyone else interested and have any suggestions?
I'm here been reading along when I can. How I ever thought I could work, get an MBA and have some spare time (to fix up my Mako)escapes me
I did make the Charleston to Beaufort run back in August and it is a piece of cake. 4-5 hours in a 175 scout running maybe 25 knots with needed pit stops.
Some good wild life scenery and very little to 0 no wake zones. Nothing tricky either we left the hand held GPS in the truck accidentally and just followed the ICW map in the glove box.
Beaufort has a nice waterfront area with restaurants and bars in walking distance from the city marina.
I'd love to run from B'fort to Savannah its one of the few pieces of the E. Coast ICW I lack
hludlam is dead on with the dates.

Well Brian.... you've got a next door nieghbor now!! We got the Grady put to bed last night in the bay next to yours about 7:00 PM. Long day. We started the trip to Mid-Carolina Marine in Columbia at 6:00 AM, arrived at 9ish, got a full stem to stern boat checkout per Grady requirements. paperwork, etc, (Can't say enough about the great folks at Mid-Carolina.. a class bunch who seem dedicated to making sure you are comfortable with your boat's features, maintenance, etc.)
Anyway, we were back on the road with boat in tow about 1:00 PM. got through Atlanta rush hour traffic.. finally up to North Lamier Boat storage around 6:30ish.... a 500-plus mile day done. Never been so glad to have a trip completed safely!! There's nothing quite like dealing with a$$h---s in rush hour traffic cutting in front of you like you're in a sports car and can stop on a dime
Nonetheless, all is well and she's a beauty... and she's ready for water!! We're looking forward to fun days on the lake and hopefully we can join in on a group outing to the coast.. in the meanwhile what about hitting the boat show in Jan???
Thanks for asking. It was one of those "rare finds" that happen sometimes and the timing was right for us. It was kind of a sad situation that brought about the sale... the previous owner's sudden health problems forced a fast sale for his family.
It's 2005 GW 228 w/ Yam 225 FS It was "used" but had only 14 hrs on eng. and had been in fresh water only 4 times. A sweet boat... absolutely no blemishes at all.
It looks pretty neat seeing mine and Parthery's Gradys sitting side-by-side in the dry storage area!! I'm hoping to get some pics this weekend (weather permitting) and I'll post them.
Back from Costa Rica. What a Country! We fished from Crocodile Bay Lodge in SW CR. Fishing was "slow" but our group landed 7 sails, numerous dolphin & roosterfish including a 60 lb one. I caught two sails 90# and 120# and a 40# dolphin. One day I will learn how to post pictures on this site but until then you'll just have to wait!
Boat has two coats on the bottom and looks pretty good. One more coat around wear areas, set her back on the trailer and touch up where the blocks are and I'll be ready. May try and get a good coat of wax on her before I put her back on the trailer. Need to start and finish my Xmas shopping first or I will be in deep "water".
