Scott you might need your mask and snorkel in the Keys. Water is MUCH nicer to dive down there. I have all the gear I need including tanks but just haven't pulled them out of the basement in awhile. I think it was 3 years ago when I last took my boat down to the Keys. Think I am due to go back. Hope you have a good time.

Garmin sent me a diagram of a transducer but it is no where near what mine looks like. Mine does not have a bolt through it but appears to slide in and lock. It is the small lock piece that I cannot seem to find the mounting location for locking piece. I sent Garmin these pictures to see if they could help. i may resort to 5200 or silicone if I cannot get the locking piece to work.

Bob,

Your transducer looks like an Airmar P66. I have the same one. You are welcome to take a look mine for comparison if you want. My boat is stored on the trailer at Vann Tavern boat storage. I may be up at the lake tomorrow (Fri.). Let me know. 404-218-8834 c.

Bob, I will be at my place around 3 pm today (Friday) if you want to raise your boat up on my lift. Saturday we have house guests and will be tied up but Sunday we could lift it out as well. Harv

I tell you what, this place is the best. You guys are a great help.

But It doesn't look good for getting to the lake this afternoon. Altough now I have incentive! If Sunday works out best for you Harv I should be able to be there. Bo, if I went by Vann's Tavern on Saturday would I be able to check out your transducer? I will also check online for information on that model number which is a big help.

Garmin sent me additional information and stated that the transducer was not a Garmin piece. I found that surprising since it was bought together in the same box with the head unit from West Marine.

Looks like another weekend that Jim will catch all the fish. I mean, how could I catch anything without a working depthfinder? That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Bob,

You are welcome to go by Vann Tavern boat storage to look at my transducer. I can give you directions if you don't know where it is.

If the gate is open then the owner is on the property and he (Jack) and his son (Larry) keep pretty close tabs on who is coming and going. You will have to stop at the small building straight ahead when you drive in the gate and check with either Jack or Larry. Just introduce yourself and tell them I gave you permission to take a look. I will call them ahead of time if you are going by.

There is an outside chance that I will be going up Sat. morning and not this afternoon. Either way let me know. My cell is 404-218-8834 if you don't have it.

I have a Furuno FF and it uses the Airmar P66 ducer that looks like yours. Several brands of FF use Airmar ducers as they are a good quality product.

I forgot to add. If you look on the plastic housing in your photo just below where the wire enters the housing you can see the brand and model. From what I can tell it looks like Airmar P66.

Bo - You are dead on with the model. I see the markings now. For years I just assumed it was a Garmin unit. I was able to find a parts diagram online after a google search for Airmar P66. Even had an old THT thread from about 5 years ago pop up. Now with diagrams in hand, a chance to look at your boat, and Harv's lift I maybe back fishing again.

i am sure there is not a single fish in Lanier worried about that...

Hey guys,

Want to use your boat for a good cause? There is an annual cleanup at Lake Allatoona every year and they need boats to transport volunteers around the lake. This year the cleanup is next Sat. Sept. 18. I am participating and told the coordinator of the cleanup that I would try to find some more boaters to volunteer. Check out their website at www.allatoona.org.

The cleanup runs from 9 am to 12 pm and then there is free food and drinks from 12 - 2 pm. The sign up deadline has passed but if you let me know if you can participate I will let the coordinator know. Call me at 404-218-8834 or email bodunn@bellsouth.net

Bob,

Great, I hope you get the transducer fixed.

After 2 visits to check out the transducer on Bokat and a trip to Harv's Boatyard, I think my transducer problems are solved. Not only did Harv lift the boat out, he spent the better part of the day and taxi service to Port Royale to look for adhesive.

Got the transducer locking plate in place thanks to looking at Bo's unit but still had the problem of the transducer pivoting up and out. The catch on the bracket must have broken off. Again with the help of Harv and Harv's boatyard and parts we managed to secure it in place with a little epoxy.

So the fish better start worrying? Probably not, but I am getting my downrigger out of the basement and will give Jim's method a try.

Again thanks to every one for your help.

Does anyone in the cumming/alpharetta area have a downrigger ball I could borrow for 2-3 days so i can make a mold? $45 for one seems pricey, so if i can get one and make a mold I will just make them, for you as well just for the cost of the material...

Bob, glad you got your transducer fixed. Now that you have sonar and broken out the downrigger - the Striper better watch out!

Scott, that's a great idea making your own downrigger ball.

Thanks Bob, Sounds good. I will give you a call towards friday and see what the plans are.

Jim, you said you use and 8lb ball, any reason over a 10 lb?

I do a lot of mold making for the hardware on our boats, and figured this would be easier to do then keep buying them... I will then coat them with plasti-dip when finished.

I was planning on making a mold tomorrow from a croquet ball and designing a fin on the back

Thanks

Yea no kidding, thats for jsut the mold, then you need the lead or tin, eyelets, and a coating for it. So It will cost me about 15 dollars to make the mold, And Will cast them from there, should be good, need to go by ace hardware and buy some stainless or brass eyes for it. It will be good to have yours to look at to see the placement of the eyes. So thanks!

Also, do any of you guys use umbrella rigs? I use to have good luck with them. I Have some on white chipmunks with a 6" curly tails on the,, and then another with some 4" and 5" shad on it. Willb e going by hammonds to pick up some more lures at Jims advice to run a single one off the new downrigger. but was thinking of having the downrigger down, and also my umbrellas back there.... with that many hooks even if one doesnt strike, seems Like i may at least snag one in the side!!!

I usually leave about one umbrella rig per trip in a tree. It is a sacrifice to the fish gods or something. I used to actually have some luck with them but lately have not been so good. It might of been about the same time I tried to out think the game and assemble umbrella rigs myself. At this point I am not sure that is a coincidence. I used heaveir drop backs from the umbrella to keep them from tangling. Probably costs me fish and rigs.

I made an umbrella rig retriever after I lost my first one to a tree and have never lost another since!! I will show you if you like, simple to make, and at worst you will lost one or two lures off of it.

Bo - I think I saw your boat and truck headed south on 400 on Thursday afternoon. Are you headed out another trip? I am jealous.
