I just got back from my trip to the Chesapeake Bay and put my boat back into the lake last evening. This morning I dealt with the full pool and its impact on my dock ramp. It needs to go up my steps but I have to build ramps on my steps for my wheels to roll. Too rainy now so I'm hoping the water starts receding just a bit to buy me some time to do the job.
I trailered the boat over 1400 miles in 10 days and spent 5 nights on the boat cruising the Bay. We launched in Urbanna, Va. on the Rappahonnock River on Tuesday in small craft warnings. On Wednesday I went out the river in a following gale force wind so I surfed to nearby Irvington, Va and took a slip at the Tides Inn for relief. On Thursday I ventured into the main part of the bay enroute Annapolis only to be beaten back by strong winds and rough seas so after 2 hours of pounding around I opted to turn around and go back to the Rappahonnock where we toured Deltaville for a few hours and then back to my trailer in Urbanna to trail the boat to Annapolis.
Launched in Annapolis on Saturday and cruised to St. Michaels for one night and Oxford for the next night. We were cruising with friends in 41', 43' and 45' sailboats. My boat looked like a dinghy for them. I had added a fixed mount VHF radio and Craig's Canvas made a great camper cover which made the trip considerably more comfortable and safe. Much to my surprise my boat, trailer, and truck worked flawlessly and we had no near misses trailering. Final outcome is we ate more crab than ever and I have checked off an item on my bucket list but will keep future cruises on rivers and lakes or the ICW. No more big bodies of water for me. Harv

Looks like this weekend might be a bit cooler, albeit windy...may see a leaf or two start to turn colors. Hopefully the boat will be out of the shop by then. Ongoing carb issues.
Full pool is good, but I'm guessing that some trees have grown in some places that were out of water for so long. Don't want to take a ride up that little finger of the lake that goes under 400, for example. Too much chance of hitting something....
Harv - Sounds like your trip went well despite the weather. I want to hear more about it when you get the chance.
Danny - We were in SSI from Friday afternoon to Monday. Robby had his fall break from school so we decided to run down for a few days. Rented a condo out near East Beach. I did see all the Triathalon people all weekend. Saturday we mainly rode around, went over to Jekyll, and hung out in the Village. Sunday we went out on my friends boat that he keps at Golden Isles Marina. Took a nice ride up the Fernandina River and down the ICW.
I do not think any of us thought the lake you be full as of yesterday a year ago. Sure came back faster than I thought. Read in the paper this morning that as of a few weeks ago they were predicting full pool in mid November put latest rain pushed up the date. May peak a few feet above 1071 before it is all over.
Let me know if anyone wants to do a get together. Sounds like a good idea.
I saw an interview on the news last night of Tim Rainey from the corp. He said there is a possibility the lake could go up enough that they will have to start closing ramps because the water is too high to use them. The opposite problem of what we had for the last two years.
The news went on to say it could reach 1073 by the end of next week. That seems a bit hit too me. 1072 is very likely though I think.
I need some Lake Lanier area help, My buddy brought his boat up from Amelia Island (Its a 33' Palmetto Center Console) it is on the lake now, He asked me for a GOOD electronics guy in the area. I don know one my guy is in PC where I keep my boat. Any suggestions? It is currently on the lake
Thanks
Gordon
I put some pictures from my Chesapeake Bay trip in THT Album section under hludlam, Chesapeake Bay trip.
Great pics in your album. Urbanna and Carter Creek are my usual destinations, and went to St. Mike's a few years ago. All great places, but sorry the weather didn't work out for you.
Did you make it up the Corrotoman river while in Urbanna? It is a great river to cruise, especially while it is blowing. It is the river to your port when heading from Urbanna to Carter creek.
Anyone done any fishing lately? My Sea fox has been in the shop since the middle of July fighting with Suzuki over warranty work, and I have not had time to make it to the Sea Vee. When I do have time to get to the Sea Vee, there are small craft warnings! I am supposed to get the Sea Fox back Friday, I am not holding my breath!!!!!

Reeldog, what kind of problems? I'm surprised to hear that Suzuki has not been cooperative...everyone seems to love the Zukes....
I just got the boat back the other day...4 weeks in the shop with carb problems. Hope to get it out this weekend....and I hope its fixed. We'll see....
Well, my dad had the boat out on July 19th and the power head blew (2 years old, still under warranty). Brought it to one dealer who sat on it for about 3 weeks and did nothing... Brought it down the street to another dealer who rebuilt the power head and it blew immediately. Then we were in the middle of a battle between Suzuki and the dealer as to who was going to pay for the second rebuild. it then moved back to the original dealer and the Suzuki Factory tech came out last week and rebuilt the power head again. I just got the call the it is ready... Only 3 1/2 months!!!

Went out for a boat ride yesterday. Lake looks great full! Now I know the new landing we built for the dock is at 1073 as water was lapping at the bottom. Water is at the sea wall. I am not complaining one bit!
Ok, so it only took 5 hours of running to blow the engine again! It is now back in the shop to get fixed again! Hopefully this time they will decide to just put a new motor on the boat! This is three power heads that have blown now... Going on the Fourth!! Not a fan of Suzuki right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great picture of your "family". Ever so often I see one of the hard top Aristocrafts on the lake but not 3 at once.
My dad bought our first boat in 1968 and it was down to either the Aristocraft or a Larson All-American 186. Not sure of the reason for the decision but we ended up with the Larson from C A May Marine. At that time the Aristocrafts and larsens were amoung the largest runabouts on the lake. Ours was powered by either a 120 HP or 140 HP Mercruiser sterndrive. Kept the boat at Gunter's Marina which became Lanier Harbour. We had fun with that boat that was often loaded with my parents and 6 kids!
Wow. That's a cool picture of the Aristocrafts. We have a group of Boston Whaler owners that meets up at the Lake a couple times a year. It's great seeing the Lake above full pool too.
