Thanks Bob and Aristocraft, I am still learning how to fresh water fish and it's been a slow process for me - so I can relate to having difficulty catching fish on Lanier. I guess that makes it that much better when you finally catch a nice fish.
Bob, has the searay been towed away yet? I know you were concerned about it possibly drifting into your dock.
The lake hit 1069 this morning. I would never have guessed it would recover this fast. Goes to show what a 100 year flood can do for the lake. It has have come up 16 feet this year alone. Truly amazing.
You guys catching all these fish is really starting to get to me. Maybe this weekend...
Catch a few fish, watch the UGA / LSU game, maybe grill ... starting to sound pretty good.
They did get the Sea Ray out last Friday. The boat was owned by a friend of the neighbors. The battery died from the bilge pump running and rain filled the boat. As you can see from Brian's picture she was sticking straight up.
Just found a cool alternative to Google Earth that can be helpful at the Lake. It is on MSN.com under maps and directions. Find the location you want, zoom in, and switch to bird's eye view. You can change the view from North to east, south, or west. It gives you a good angle with remarkable detail. I checked out the lakehouse and you can see the shoreline in great detail. The pictures were taken with the lake down so you can see structure. Even can see my boat sitting on the trailer at the top of the hill.
That msn link goes to virtualearth.com a microsoft product. It now uses bing their new search engine to compete with google. I have been using it for several years now. I don't even mapquest things anymore I just use virtualearth. When we went down to Tampa last year not knowing the area I zoomed in onthe coast and found suitable boatramps and seagrass flats to drift for trout. Thats how I found Anclote park in Tarpon Springs and all the flats out towards the key. Oh yeah , nice fish! Here's one I caught at my pond a few weeks ago.
And now she's back in the lake so I can catch her next year!
Bob you're spoiled getting to drop spot-tails off your dock. If you can take Thursday off, I'll be up at the lake striper fishing. I'd be happy to drop by your dock and pick ya up - you could probably give me some fishing tips.
back in the shop with a faulty vro pump. gasket inside has been deteriated (happy ethanol user) and has been pushing more oil causing the engine to smoke a lot.
Cheesegrits..Caught 1 catfish and missed a couple hits. Never found the stripers last Thurs. I did see a few stripers up top.. but they disappeard before i could toss anything to them.
Was out there yesterday for a little while....was like glass til about 3 or so when the wind picked up.
The Corp needs to come through and reset some of the no-wake buoys and hazard markers....the no-wake buoy at the 6 mile creek bridge is now over by the boat ramp....and there are several poles that have lost the buoy itself...nearly hit one on the cut through between 6 mile and 4 mile.
I was out Saturday morning and conditions (except for the lack of fish) could not have been better. Lake looked great and water was like glass. Most of the trash and junk seems to have gone. I would still be wary of the stuff just below the surface.
Went back out Sunday morning early and finished killing the bluebacks that had not died overnight in my bait tank. It was again calm but overcast. The catfish must really be biting because like Jim, I did manage to catch one. Took a quick boat ride over to Holiday and was probably off the lake by 11.
I hear the stripers are started busting on top this week - Bob have you seen any stripers up top over by your cove? I hope to get back out there soon and toss some top water plugs at them.
I worked on the boat this last sunday getting her ready for the coast this week, and afterwards drove down to the east bank just to see the water level difference. Lake looked beautiful with the full pool. I was amazed how many people were still boating despite the month of October.
Did not make it up to the lake last weekend as we were in St Simons. Looks like the lake level is creeping up on full. Imagine it will hit the magic 1071 sometime this week.
While we did take a boat ride in SSI, I did not get a chance to go fishing. But according to reports the reds were hitting pretty good with the trout expected to pick up over the next couple of weeks.
I'm saying 1071.2 by Thursday night - Bets ON - beers on me!!
OK guys how about a get-together?
that be nice before it gets too cold, I missed Bob's gtg over the summer, and would like to meet some of you folks. Moving to Suwanee first of November so this is definitely going to put me one bit closer to lanier.

Bob,
Beth and I were in SSI last weekend, also. We were there for the Red Cross Triathlon for Beth. We went to Golden Isles Marina on Sat. for the "weigh-in" for the Celebrity Redbone Tournament. Didn't see any celebrities, just drinking fisherman. LOL
