Default First trip to Islamorada

Hi all, Thanks in advance for the replies. I'm going to be making my first trip down to the Keys in the begining of June to Islamorada, and staying at a friends Condo. I want to check out the food and sights of the Keys, but also I want to go do some fishing. I was wondering if there was anyone here that may be pretty familiar with the Islamorada area or the Fla. Keys for that matter and could give some advice on what are the "Must Do's" in the Keys. Also I want to rent a boat 1 or 2 days out of my ten day trip but do not want to book the rental in advance because I want to pick the days that we dont have much planned, and of course the weather. Do you think there will be a problem with availability on Memorial day week for a 20' CC on a day by day basis?

I am sure you will get a lot of replies and I'll start you off with a few:
- Spend a day in Key West
- Rent a boat and go yellow tailing, fish for dolphin or fish Channel 2 or 5 bridges.
- Go snorkling at Pennekamp State Park
- Visit Indian Key in your rental boat
- Feed the tarpon at Robbie's

June is a good month to be in the Keys. The seas should be calm and the dolphing should be biting.

I vaca in Islamorada for at least a week every year. I can help with food and booze.
Islamorada fish company is good for sunset diner and drinks(also they have a good fish market), morada bay for drinks at sunset, lorieli's for any meal, drinks the bar opens for breakfast(cheap),Islamorada bakery for breakfast, while at robbies feeding the fish you must eat at the hungry tarpon
have a great time

On a weekend afternoon (after a day of fishing) go to the Sandbar and anchor up and swim and drink (The Sandbar is off of Whale Harbor on the eastern side on the channel) fun place lots of sights.

Key West for a day definitely.

Robbies for feeding the Tarpon is very cool

The Green Turtle breakfast (In Islamorada) it is the very best. The Hungry Tarpon is no where close.

Snorkel Pennekamp Area or at least run out to Alligator light and snorkel under the light, there are more fish there than you can believe.

Dolphin fishing is the thing in June (I have been going to Islamorada for almost 30 years every June).

You are right about hungry tarpon not being close
that is why I said "while you're at robbies feeding the fish"

Thumbs up

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions so far fellas. Keep them coming. Do you guys think I'm going to have any problems renting a boat 20'er or so, spur of the moment mid week?
