Default Marathon Crabs

Going to Marathon for the first time in early April. Anyone have any advice or experience with catching Blue Crabs (or any other edible crabs for that matter)? My only experience crabbing is a very little bit for blue crabs from a pier in the Chesapeake Bay.

I think Stone crabs are in season until May 14th, licensed saltwater anglers are allowed 5 traps per person , we use our fish carcasses or you can buy pigs feet. I never blue crabbed here but people sure do.

Default Blue Crabs

I have tried to catch blue crabs without a lot of success in Marathon.
You get a few but not enough to make it worth your while. I buy them in Key Largo but those are caught north of the Keys.
I am told that crabbing is better down around Cudjoe.

ljk, I'll give you 2 SECRET spots to catch blue crab , but only if you PROMISE not to tell ANYONE ! Down Blimp Road (aka County Rd. ) and on the gulf side of US 1 in Cudjoe 1/4 mile S. of the MCSO Station.

buddy, thanks for the info, but when I said "here," I meant Marathon. Aren't Blimp Road and Cudjoe up towards Key Largo or somewhere?

ljk Blimp Rd ( you know THE Blimp) and Cudjoe are @ MM 21 south of you @ 30miles .

Stone crabs are usually caught in a baited trap while soaking for about a week . We do well near a rocky ledge adjacent to a grass flat, any good fish house sells them, you only eat the claws .
