Random Quote: How did those footprints get on the ceiling in the head ?
Contemplating a trip to Abacos (Green Turtle Cay) this June. Currently am insured with Progressive and have the 125 nm navigation coverage (covers that distance from mainland US). Progressive has no option for coverage beyond the 125 nm. Buddies on the other two boats going have similar issue (different insurance carriers).
Does anybody know of an insurance company that offers a single trip type policy that would cover us while we are cruising the Bahamas?
no company will cover you in the bahamas ive tried. youll have to completely switch your policy to another carrier. Thats why i left progressive. I have a buddy who just got a good rate with progressive. Charter lakes and NBOA were the most competitive for me. What size and kind of boat do you have you might be limitd depending on size.
Thanks for the reply. I have a 2005 GW 33 Express. Just got off the phone w/Boat US Insurance. They offer coverage that covers the entire Bahamas chain as well as Turks, and after getting everything apples to apples ($$ coverage) to my Progressive policy, Boat US actually came in a few $$ cheaper. I asked the lady on the phone to confirm the full Bahamas coverage and she said yes and that they have had a lot of people switch to them just because of this coverage.
They have insurance that will cover the Bahamas. They don't represent Boats US or progressive but the companies they do will cover most of your overseas destinations if you "ship" can make the trip.
Ask your carrier if you can purchase a rider for your specific trip. A good carrier should be able to accomodate you. I have GIECO/Seasafe, which normally has a 75NM navigation limit, but when I go to the Bahamas, they will sell me a rider for wherever I want to go.
The maximum distance that Progressive will cover is 125 nm. They do not do "one time extensions". They are a good company and I will stay with them for everything else. But they are not a custom insurer and as such you get what they offer or go elsewhere.
I have now received quotes from other carriers besides Boat US. Everyone I asked to quote provided full Bahamas coverage. All came in close to the same premium $$ except NBOA - they were substantially lower than everyone else, while providing equal or better coverage.
So the plan is to switch to NBOA unless someone has had some bad experience with them?

I had coverage sold by NBOA for a few years. I never had a claim, so I can't comment on their claim service. I have never heard a bad word about them on the internet.
