Default December trolling in Stuart

Headed south next week if the seas cooperate to look for Hoo and Dolphin. Will obviously be looking for weed lines or temp breaks, but would love some local feedback about a starting point. Structure, depth, anything to help with planning.

I can not express how excited I am to not have to run 60+ miles to look for fish.

Thanks for the help.

My buddy did three drifts with kites today in front of the loran tower just south of St. Lucie inlet.

7 Sails
4 Dolphin 2 at 30 Lbs+

All were caught between 80'-120' and he only fished about 4 hours.

Plenty of sails, esp after a cold front.

You guys are killing me!

I have never fished kites. My norm is teasers, skirts and ballyhoo on top for sails and Dolphin, darker colors down 10-20 for Hoo.

Looks calm tomorrow, again jealous.

Is there a starting point to look for or just head to deep water and fish?

Just get a local chart and look for the "Loran Tower XXXX". The X's are things like Reef, Ledge, etc. It will be south of the St Lucie Inlet. You can also stop at Bull Shark Reef/Barge for bait while you are on the way.

December is looking like January now. Likely headed down New Years Day. How have the seas been? Are there any local offshore forecasts that are good?

I fish out of Jupiter most weekends when my work schedule doesnt intrude. I like to go straight out to the 200 foot reefline and then troll south or north. I usually put out a spread of four naked ballyhoo on TLD25 stand up poles.

Good luck and I am glad you chose to spend your tourist dollars here in Florida. We need more snowbirds during season.

I use this site for local information on the conditions. Most of the fishing reports say the same thing "Loran Tower in 80' - 100' or Push Button Hill 300"+"

The winds have been pretty stiff lately. 5 feet @ 5 mi off Ft Pierce inlet AWP 5 sec DWP 10 sec. 27 degree wind chill in Vero this am.

Seas are typically on the sporty side in the winter months. If you don't have kites, try freelining some livies bridled to a circle hook.
