I live just east of orlando.. can drive down 1 day.. stay a couple and drive back. I did this once for a place in key largo that had the intials O.C. or was it O.P.?) I think ( 5ish years ago). It was a condo type place with weekend rentals (at least in oct. they did) and a marina.
I was thinking to find a simliar setup a little farther down. I have a trailered 20' I'd like to take down.. if it's too rough I'll head inland like I had to back then.

middle keys like marathon or islamorada. look on homeaway or vrbo and find a condo or house for a weekend. depends on if you need to take the wife and kids or what you need to do.

There are several places in Islamorada that might work. Breezy Palms and The Islander Resort and Marina are two that come to mind.

Cheeca Lodge is supposed to reopen in Dec, though I haven't heard if they're on schedule.

Be aware that many places have a minimum nights stay reqmt -- though this is the slow seaon.

The O.P. is Ocean Pointe Suites, mm 92.5 Key Largo. Nice place.

Try the Edgewater lodge, on Long Key, not fancy, but clean, with boat ramp, and docks a good location for every thing,kinda right in the middle and fairly reasonable. It is a true Mom and Pop place, Tell Melinda that Terry sent you.

the problem with weekend rentals is most communities will not allow less than a 7 day min, that is local ordinance, other wise you are a motel.

Look at Kawama yacht club MM100. Great location in the heart of John Pennekamp, great diving and fishing minutes off the marina. The marina has slips for rent and a ramp.

There are 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom townhouses available for rent. THe property features, 2 swimming pools, a saltwater lagoon, tennis courts, basketball, small beach, and a fishing type peir if the weather is blowing to hard.

There are many available in VRBO.com but i have a place there and can talk to a few neigbors. I can rent you the boat slip.
