Headed down to the keys the week before Christmas to hop around on a friends new boat. The boat cruises around 12knots so i am thinking that there is no reason not to have at least a high speed wahoo lure behind the boat at all times. My question is - whats the fishing like in December in the Keys? What can i expect to catch? Can you catch Pelagic fish cruising from key to key or are they farther offshore? Never fished the keys so any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
If you cruise outside the reef you will have a shot at a wahoo (90'). Use a trolling weight to get the lure down a bit. Coming in through the channels try a magnum type deep diving plug. You will have to slow down for this but you will have a shot at a grouper.

For wahoo at 12 knots I like pulling those Billy Bait mini turbo slammers. Black and red and green and yellow. The 90 ft. is good, but I'd work 90 to 120 depths.
There should also be sails around just off the reef, same depths as the wahoo.
