The regular monthly meeting of the Central Florida Offshore Anglers will be held Monday Oct. 12, 2009 at the Dubsdread Country Club in Orlando. Our speaker this month will be George Poveromo.
George Poveromo is a world-renowned angling authority, National Seminar host, television host, and senior editor for Salt Water Sportsman Magazine. Poveromo, a native of South Florida in the United States, has fished most of the U.S. coast as well as many countries. He demonstrates his expertise through his column "Tactics and Tackle" in Salt Water Sportsman. Poveromo is a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, Southeast Outdoor Press Association, and Boating Writers International. He is an advocate of catch and release fishing as well as coastal conservation, is a member of the Coastal Conservation Association as well as the IGFA.
Poveromo is the senior editor for Salt Water Sportsman magazine, the oldest and most widely-distributed sport fishing magazine in the United States. Salt Water Sportsman has a paid monthly circulation of over 150,000 readers. Poveromo has been part of the Salt Water staff since 1983. You have all seen George's ESPN2 television program George Poveromo's World Of Saltwater Fishing.
The Central Florida Offshore Anglers (CFOA) is a club for people who fish inshore as well as offshore. Everyone who has a passion for fishing and wishes to associate with others who share that passion is welcome to join. We currently have over 400 members and we encourage family and junior participation. The club meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 pm at the Dubsdread Golf Course in Orlando at 549 W. The CFOA hosts an annual offshore fishing tournament on Memorial Day and an auction in November and supports a variety of Fishing Conservation and community programs including the Cooperative Science Services (CSS), LLC Dolphin Tagging Research Project, the Edgewood Children’s Ranch Fishing Day, Reef building projects, Paralyzed Veterans Fishing Program, and the Teen Sport Fishing Association. The CFOA will once again in 2009 be providing the CSS funding and staff to deploy at least 2 satellite tags to monitor the habits of large dolphin off of Port Canaveral and will be partnering this year with the Florida State Fishing Association (FSFA) in Melbourne on reef building projects off the East Central Florida coast.
