Well, depends on what you want. Upper Keys, Middle Keys, or Lower.

Upper Keys start at Key Largo (MM 107) and run unofficially down to Tavernier.

Middle Keys start around Islamorada (Upper Matacumbe Key) down through Marathon Key.

Lower Keys finish the islands down to Key West at MM 1.

I'd go with the Middle Keys/Islamorada (Upper and Lower Matacumbe Keys) for a couple of reasons:

1. Good access between the ocean and Florida Bay through Bridges #2 and #5 at the south side of Lower Matacumbe Key. Good fishing there at the bridges if the wind's blowing offshore.

2. Quiet, but resturants and shops close by. You'll find some characters at the bar in the Outback Resturant usually. Chicken dinner at Lazy Days. Go have lunch one day at the 7 Mile Grill in Marathon.

3. Lots of rental properties with docks. You looking for a house with dock or resort?

4. Access to the Isalmorada Humps and Floyd's Wall for offshore fishing.

We used to rent a house on Lower Matacumbe, haven't the last two years though. Went through VRBO without a hitch.

If you go to Key West, lots to do, but obviously more developed and more $$. Fishing can be GREAT going out to the "End of the Bar" and "Cosgrove Shoals" -- both easy runs from Garrision Bight Marina. You'll pay more for lodging there too. You might find a place on Big Coppit Key with a dock -- that'd be best. Since I'm military, I stay at Navy Base when I'm there (if there's room). If you go to Key West, visit Conchy Joe's Tackle, across the street from Garrison Bight Marina on N. Roosevelt Blvd. Rob will take care of you.

Default Keys

I enjoy Marathon. Lot's of convenience i.e grocery stores, tackle stores etc.

Easy 20 mile run to the Marathon Hump and the tuna have been real productive, some are in closer as the bait starts pushing through on the reef.

Lot's of canal homes here are 2 you might check out:
http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacat...tals/4516.html
http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacat...als/13929.html

Quick access to the Atlantic and Florida Bay.

Good luck.

In the lower Keys [halfway between Marathon and Key West] is Venture Out. Good amenities [fuel, ramp, power washer, store, etc] and easy access. Check out www.waterfrontkeys.com and www.dolberryrealty.com

Try this link. http://www.keyrentals.com/. I have used this firm a few times.Last time was in Aug. on DuckKey. You don't have to rent his boats. Ask him if he has any specials. I have rented pool homes from him(wife doesn't fish) If you use him please tell him I sent you. Thanks Jeff

Big Pine Fishing Lodge has rentals and dock area. Family owned and nice place to go. Key West is a short drive. I've always enjoyed staying there.

2 bedroom 2 bath oceanside 1/2 duplex near Marathon, Fla Keys, mm 53.5. 30' dockage, minutes from some of the best flats fishing in the Keys as well as minutes from deep water. Walking distance and membership to Cabana Club with beach, olympic pool, and bar/restaurant, great for kids too. Easy access to the gulf side via Vaca Cut.

Fully appointed unit with bait freezer, fish station, w/d , king size bed in master and two full beds at second bedroom. Two bathrooms, A/C's and tv's, car and trailer parking in front, and concrete deck at canal side. Boat ramp and tackle shops two blocks away.

Marathon Hump is 23 miles out, good spot to try for tunas there

We use vrbo alot in Europe. I tried to get one day in Feb, but everyone had minimums. We decided to use points at a Marriott property.

Here is a link to my condo. I can do better on the price without the broker. I am in the process of putting it on VRBO. Bay Harbour is in a great location for fishing and r and r. For the resorts, in the price they do not tell you about the "resort fee" which can be as much as an additional $40 per day. What are you looking to spend?

Thanks for looking.
