Default Miami to Bimini anyone?

So a couple of my buddies and I are looking to make the cross within a month or so and we are looking for another boat to accompany us on the cross and the return, I hear crossing alone is a so if anyone wants to make the trip with us please let me know.
Thanks!
Pancho

Thats BS its only a 48 mile run from Miami. What size boat do you have? We routinely make 70 mile run solo from Stuart to West End. I used to make the Bimini run from my old home in pompano bch with a single yamaha on a 25 Bluewater all the time..
Just make sure the weather is good and your equipment and safety gear is up to par and go for it. Its not that big a deal as long as your boat is set up and you have your collective $hit together.

I have a 27' SeaCraft with twin merc 225 optimax's. I know the trip isnt long I have personally never done it so everyone I talk to about it tells me to go with another boat.

I made my first crossing 20+ years ago on a 24 north coast gas inboard beater (solo)...It was quite an adventure. There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment you get from doing it with your own team and I never have lost that feeling and we make probably 6 ir 7 crossing a year. You're gonna have to do it some time by yourself why not the first. Go for it !hell your boat you good be over there for a lunch and come back home if you wanted . thats a perfect bahamas rig. Just do it! the hell with what everyone tells you and you'll get much more out of it learning and doing it on your own.

We are picking our new boat up on Sept 4th from Ft L. Then break it in and have some extra work done on it, then our plan is to head over to Bimini Sept. 10th (Thursday) and come back 13th (Sunday). If that works for you let me know and we can hook up. Never been anywhere in FL with a boat but I will go for it if the weather is good. If all that works out then I will head down to Marathon or someplace in the Keys around the 16th for 3 or 4 days. Yes all weather permiting! I will have a Sailfish 2660 twin 150's.

Crossed for the first time in June solo in my 28 foot express cruiser. The trip over and back was super cool and easy. Stayed at the Sands (highly recommended). Just make sure you choose your battles by making sure you have a good weather window. This site is really helpful: http://www.biminicruisingguide.com/index.htm

You have a point, I guess I have been letting these older guys scare me a bit when it comes down to the cross.. I think we might have to do it solo, it will be a good learning experience.

We haven’t set a date on the trip yet and I’m almost 100% sure we are going to return that same night, but I will let you know..

Going with another boat is always a very good idea. HOWEVER, in this age of GPS and EPIRB's and VHF radio's with MMSI it's not as critical as before. That said, you need to be a good boater and your boat needs to be in tip top shape. If you meet all these criteria and find a weather window that lets you head over there in calm seas, I don't see why you can't give it a go. Besides, when I cross there is usually plenty of people crossing with me as I go for either 4 or 3 day weekends and so do plenty of other people around here.

It's like a freeway between Myjami and Bimini on a weekend.

I just don't get it! There are always guys on this site with 23+ footers, some with twins who talk about going to Bimini or West End as though it were equivalent to rounding Cape Horn. With the sophisticated technology we have today the biggest factor in crossing is the weather, which we know can be unpredictable or boat breakdown. You can minimize breakdowns by properly maintaining you boat and having a towing plan. As far as the weather, you need to be prepared to not leave IF the weather is not what was predicted and you need to be prepared to not return home, again if the weather turns snotty. However, with that said the vast majority of incidences involved boaters who were too inexperienced, as was the case last year with the football player or those who are totally unprepared to go offshore, as was the case, recently with two fishermen out of Fort Pierce who did not even have a radio. Going with a buddy probably provides moral support but if the weather turns nasty your buddy is going to be more concerned with his a** then with yours, and vice versa. Common sense, good boat handling skills and a well found vessel with all safety equipment up to date and working are the key factors and enough sense to stay home if there is a chance of lousy weather. Add to that XM weather, which is now very affordable and you can outrun most weather coming your way.

Harsh but true on every point in my opinion. I would add the ability to do back up navigation if you lose your screen or screens. I too think the buddy system is a little overrated.

I was in Bimini last weekend. Had a blast.

I've only reserved slips at marinas. I've never run into a problem canceling even the same day. Just ask when you book.
