Keys information - The Hull Truth

Thinking of heading down to the keys next year for a week of fishing. Want to try some inshore for tarpon and maybe some offshore as well. Never been down and need any information possible. Looking to stay around marathon if possible.

If you look to do any offshore and inshore there is only one charter company to call, Dream Catcher Charters out of KW (sunset marina). Steven Lamp runs 7+ boats for both offshore and inshore, all new CCs or bay boats, he spends the whole year on the water so he knows both bites and what to target. AND, he and his captains are profesionals. Also, if you like he can fish the Dry Tortugas and that is as rare and amazing of a place to fish as any I have ever been. The fish are HUGE

About halfway between marathon and Key West is Venture Out. See www.waterfrontkeys.com for places. Convenient if you want to keep/rent a boat while here, plus has a lot of amenities. Useful for families up to 6 since you can rent a house. Otherwise there are a number of motels in Marathon [some are expensive] and you can look for private rentals at www.vrbo.com. Depends on how much you want to do beside fishing.

There are a lot of good charter guys in the Keys. If you want to stay in Marathon, I can recommend 6 or 7 of them, depending on what you want to fish for, cost, whether kids will be with you, how big a boat you're comfortable with, etc. In terms of where to stay, it depends on cost, the amenities you want, locational considerations, etc.

I was told about a place on Conch Key by other THT members..great place..Conch Key Villas. Nice deep water docks, on the gulf side (so is calmer) and facing the sunset!...Maybe 10 min from Marathon
