Wife and I are staying the for 6 nights end of August. No fishing this time, snorkeling and kayaking and just sitting on the beach. We plan to hit Key West for the day. What are some other things we can do down that way? good restaurants?
Any local places around Marathon to rent a small boat to tool around in?
Thanks

I got a deal for $219 a night (2 bedroom) it was some kind of special they had running last month. Not cheap but the place looks nice and while we are down there we are going to look at some rental homes for next year.

Captain Pip's is about walking distance for boat rentals. Key Colony Inn and Cabana Breezes in Key Colony Beach. Outdoor [no A/C] Keys-flavor restaurants include Chappy's, Keys Fisheries, Burdine's, The Island.
Boondocks on Ramrod [mile marker 27.5] has the only miniature golf in the Keys as part of their restaurant.
Best gormet restaurant outside of Key West is the Square Grouper on Cudjoe Key [mile marker 22] with dinners from about $20 and up.
A very good beach is Sombrero Beach [road between Kmart and Publix, take it to the end]. Another Keys "event" is the No Name Pub -- turn right at the light on Big Pine Key and follow the signs, plus you will usually see Key deer out there [especially if you cross the bridge to No Name Key itself].

Sombrero Beach is at end of Sombrero Beach Road. Free, free parking, has bathrooms and changing rooms, covered picnic tables, benches, kid's play area, etc. Can be crowded on weekends.
For boat rentals, try Vacation Boat Rentals on Sadowsky causeway on the way in to Key Colony Beach. They have gotten good reviews on this forum in the past.
If you want to stay closer to Key West there are two houses on the water with boat slips that you can rent cheap. One is 5 bdrm/2 bth for $1000 a week and the other is 2 bdrm/1 bth for $600 a week. Have friends that have stayed there before and say it's nice. You can call Capt Nole at 727-235-2333 for more info. There is one photo of the home on anglerarmory.com under vacation getaways private rentals also.
in key west, if you like cuban food, go to el siboney
