How much clearance do you need? There are 2 more bridges west of Bud & Mary's with more room.

The 2 western most bridges between Upper and Lower Matecumbe Keys have 27' & 32'. These are the Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key Channels and they allow you to get from the gulf to the Atlantic. If you want to go to Bud & Mary's you have to use their channel from the oceanside.

If you are staying on Upper Matecumbe, from the Gulf side you can take the channel that runs by Bud & Mary's to the 7' bridge, then follw the well marked channel along US 1 and power lines west to the Indian Key Channel to proceed to the Atalntic. Depending on where you are staying, this maybe much shorter than running the ICW to these channels. See the link below.

If using the Lignumvitae Key Channel, be sure to stop by Robbies once to feed the tarpon!

Tom, I'll look at that. I thought there was a higher bridge, but was unsure how far west it is. In looking at the chart, I see that there is no water on either side fo the road to get from teh 10' to teh 23' bridge. Or is there? I see private nav aids in there. Thanks...

You can navigate from Papa Joes Restaurant (inside-bayside) to robbie's marina. The third bridge is the highest. The total distance between all 4 bridges is a mile. I suggest you drive it first, you can see all the channels from the road. Bud and Marys is on the ocean side. That area is my favorite part of the Keys. Make sure you hand feed the 200 lb Tarpon at Robbie's marina. It is the cheapest, most fun you will have in the Keys. Enjoy

Everyone here is giving you good info. You can run the entire bay side of the highway between Papa Joes and Robbies against the shore until you get to the western end then pick up the red and greens. Be aware of the slow speed zone in front of the indian key fill ramp. Most people run it if you're north of the power lines but I normally slow down anyway.

Check out the mangrove tunnel/channel that starts just north of Robbies. Worth a run through.
