Default Marathon Trip in July

I posted a while back but my trip is coming up soon. It has been 10 years since I have been to the keys and I will have a learning curve. We are renting a house on a canal listed on VRBO that has been used by several THT'ers.

We are taking a 22 Triton bay boat and plan on doing the snorkel thing at Sombrero and lite trolling/bottom fishing in the Atlantic and whatever in the bay.

I guess my questions are, whats biting, can I make one stop for license/rules/regs and any stuff I need to be legal for fishing. Also is there a guide to some the hot spots for dinner dancing etc.

Thanks in advance for any info to speed up my local knowledge.

Gman, have a great trip.

Dolphin bite offshore is good, starting in 300' of water, though a few have been caught closer in that that. look for birds. if the seas cooperate, you might be ok in your rig.

Inside the reef is usually calmer. YT Snapper bite has been good too. The local headboat, marathon lady, is a fun option for $50. In the bay, the mangrove snapper bite has been consistent. PM me if you need GPS #s. There will prob be some tarpon around the bridges when you get here. 7 mile and bahia honda both hold fish.

Kmart will take care of your fishing license. 'Big time bait and tackle' will be able to set you up with gear, info; as will any of the local tackle shops. I get my snapper chum from Ore fish market.

Try Dockside (esp. FRI) for nightly entertainment. Dancing is not my forte, maybe someone else can help you with that?

let me know if you need anymore info.

As far as a guide to the "hot spots" in Marathon, it depends on what you want. The current big "drinking places" are the Brass Monkey and the Hurricane. PM me and I'll give you a cell phone number, we can talk more about these places and what you're looking for.

Thanks for the info, we leave one week from today. I am looking forward to cramming a month into one week.

I was somewhat surprised that I could not go online and buy/print my license ahead of time. I think it said they could be mailed to me but here in the Carolinas you can print your own or just have your # and the officer can check it.

Looking forward to visiting Fla. It has been a while.

The 800 number is a service run by Bass Pro Shops if that helps you to find it on 411.
