I have left from both cities. Phil Foster park in West Palm always works well for us. Everyone says be careful at night but we never have had problems. I have left my Excursion with trailer there for 4-5 days at a time without incident. I park near the street under a light. Be sure to have your friend leave and return at high tide as the ramp is short and long trailers will have a problem. I have a 270 Sundancer with a triple axle and we have struggled to get it off at low tide.
In Ft Lauderdale I unload at the 15th (or is it 16th) Street bridge public ramp. Turn on Cordova Steet at the Texaco (it maybe Shell by now) and turn right again at the next block. The ramp is a few blocks on the right. You can buy tickets there to park or you can carry the trailer somewhere else. It will be safe there.
The 16th Street ramp in Ft. Liquordale, like the ramp at Phil Foster Park in West Palm Beach are both good ramps, but you cannot leave your trailer parked at the 16th Street ramp in Ft. Liquordale longer than 48 hrs. That is a pay to park ramp and the meter will not accept longer than 2 days.
Sometimes you are better off going to a private marina. Some marinas have their own private launch ramp. If they don’t have a launch ramp they can launch your boat from your trailer with a fork lift & straps. You can park your rig in their parking lot. These parking lots are usually guarded at night. It’s a little more expensive than a public ramp, but when you add it in to the total cost of going to the Bahamas it’s only a small percentage of what the total trip costs.
