Default What size and type of boat IS proper for that crossing?

Minimum size for boater with average experience and say up to 3- 4 ft seas? Express cruiser in the 35 - 45 range? If it is a bigger boat then it is going to take longer, so more time in bad seas if they come up suddenly.

Are you serious?
When Tuna Fishing off Daytona we run 25' to 36' center consoles out 70 to 100 miles on a regular basis in the summer. Now if you run from west Palm to Freeport it's about 65+/- miles and the good part of that trip is you don't have to turn around and go home at the end of the day. You definetly don't need a 35' to 45' boat to make that run. With that being said the best way to get there is aboard a 36' Yellowfin with trip 350 Yamahas and a 50 MPH cruise speed.

I'm going to do it! Thanks for the advice on the wind and weather conditions. I love adventure and love boating and doing things that most conservative (and smarter) guys would never do. Plus, I would skip the Freeport trip all together if I didn't have a boat. I know it's crazy and maybe I just haven't skippered enough times in rough water but I get a kick out of it.

I'm gonna rig a couple rocket launchers on the back and do some fishing. Bringing the hooka rig to nab some of the famous Bahama lobsters.

I will be back to post some pics. It's gonna be an adventure! Now if I can just find someone to ride along.....

No Hooka Rigs for Americans in the Bahamas while lobstering. You might want to become familiar with the Bahamian laws before you go "skippering" Skipper.

If you make it across with a hooka rig plan on getting a plane ticket back because the Bahamian Government will have themselves a new 24' Deck boat and hooka rig!

The fishing regs changed alot a few years back...their enforcement is pretty "few and far" between...but if you get caught...heard a few horror stories....basically 3 things....1.it's all about the weather....2.boat maintenance....3. it's all about the weather

You can go over in just about anything. I've seen guys go over in small jet boats. As mentioned in this thread the issue is getting back. Everytime I go over in the summer it seems like the trip back is a freaking nightmere up until 2 weeks ago when I had the luck of following seas and made it back in record time. I would watch the weather and not head over or back unless the seas call for 4 foot or less. Everytime they call for 4 foot I am finding 6 constand with 8 foot rollers in the middle of the golf. Light breeze or no wind out of the south or southeast 2 footers called for the weekend and you should be able to have a nice cruise.
I would also recommend you find a tag boat to go with you cuz of the single motor. I had a boat for 15 years with a single that handled 10-12 footers with no problem but I wouldnt head over without another boat. That's just me.

I think I followed you one night from high above But as usual I had no in-game asset to assist me so you went on your merry way.

I'm gonna make the trip the last week of July. Gonna hit up some bugs in the Keys before heading over. Why...wanna come with me?

The going with another boat is a very good suggestion. I'm gonna try to find someone who goes over there regularly to tag along with.

Isn't a deck boat just this side of a house boat?

Make sure you don't catch any lobster before August 1, as the season is closed prior to this. Heavy fines if caught with lobster out of season and for undersized tails in season
