Default Fishing 101 Advice Needed

I'm new to boating and new to the area. Haven't ever really done any fishing except when I was a kid with a cane pole. It seems like I'm in a great area to fish (Hudson, FL 45 min. North of Tampa). We just bought a 17' cc, so I won't be going to far offshore. Any advice on good rod/reel combos, bait, technique, and/or areas to start, would really be appreciated.

redbone,
Welcome to the area. We live pretty close to one another, I'm in Sea Ranch. I still haven't gotten any great advice. Just exploring the area has been a lot of fun. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
