I am new to Florida fishing. Is there good striper fishing along the St. Johns River in the Green Cove Springs area? I've read that the stripers head into Black Creek during the summer because of the deeper, cooler water. I've also read that they congregate around Shands Bridge in the summer because of the shade and deeper, cooler water. If this is true, how big do the stripers get in this area and what's the best way to catch them?

I've caught a few in the river, most of them betwenn 10-15 pounds i caught them using live mullet and also gulp makes an eel look-alike that worked pretty well too, i did catch mine under the Shands bridge. Good Luck.

same here live mullet around the shands bridge.when the shrimp start to show up I have caught them around the east side of the buckman bridge and the ortega bridge.but pretty soon it will be trout and tons of them
