Default Miami to Key West and in between

Hi guys, Thinking of flying from NC to either MIA or FLL and renting a car with the Admiral and driving to the Keys. Stopping around Islamorada or Marathon and spending the night or 2 at either Ragged Edge (Isla.) or Contiental inn (Marathon). We arent looking for a world class luxury resort just relaxing, having some cocktails and enjoying the pool and view. Then from there heading to KW, and spending a night or two there doing the tourist/party thing. Then driving back to FLL/MIA and flying back to NC. I am 32 she is 28, just looking to relax, drink some, and def do a fishing charter or 2. Suggestions on where I am thinking about staying? Things to do? Better ideas? Thanks in advance! BTW I have been to the Abacos and loved it, looking for the same feel/vibe.

If you mean the Continental Inn in Key Colony Beach, it's a nice place and Key Colony Beach is one of the few places in the Keys with nice sandy beaches. Key Colony Inn is a nice restaurant with very good food and excellent prices. Cabana Breezes is also very good -- both walkable. In Key West, make sure you stay in the Old Town section if you want to do the walk-drink-eat-and-not-drive type of relaxation. Hyatt [Sunset], Westin, Pier House, etc., are expensive but right on the water and close to Mallory Square/Duval Street which is the heart of Key West. There are lots of places not on the water but close to things: Crowne Plaza La Concha and also tons of bed-and-breakfast places. More affordable but still pretty convenient is the Best Western Hibiscus.

If you do drive from FLL/MIA, take the Turnpike even though it has tolls -- take 95 and/or US1 through Miami may cost you hours of stop-and-go traffic.

As you are coming or going check out Alabama Jack's on the Card Sound route. I always try to stop there, usually on the way home. As for your proposed route, it's a good one.

You will have fun.

appfan - made about the same trip a couple years ago except,,,,drove down from Miami but flew back leaving from KW. Actually, although we had a car in KW, we really didn't need one. Next time I'll drop it at the KW airport on the way in.

I have fished with Jimmy David on the L&H out of Key Biscayne and can not say enough about it! Nice clean boat, and Jimmy is very intense on catching you fish and having a good time catching them. Check them out.....

AS Views go there is no better place than the Edgewater Lodge on Long Key, not a luxury resort, but has always been clean and comfortable for me and the lady. Have stayed there for 30 plus years. Have not stayed here recently, but if Melinda is there say Terry sent you. Find there web site on Google just put in Edgewater lodge Long Key

Ragged Edge is right on the ocean (cant remember any beach). You might look at Banana Bay (both in Marathon and KW, I have stayed at Marathon one) nice little resort. It is a little step up from Ragged Edge, in my opinion..Have fun
