Planning on staying for two weeks on Key Colony Beach/Marathon in June. Bringing the boat and will certainly do ALOT of fishing and snorkeling in the Marathon area. As can be expected, we will also be doing many other activities, one of which I have always wanted to do, and that is the Dry Tortugas/Fort Jefferson trip.
After some research, I see there are basically two tour boats that make the trip, the Sunny Days and the Yankee Freedom. Both seem to be fairly equal in what they offer, with a small difference in price.
Can anyone give their opinion/advice as to which one to choose (or not)? There will be two adults and two kids (11 and 14) and we'll have our own snorkel gear. Any info is greatly appreciated.

We did the Yankee Freedom 4 years ago. Very nice trip, would recommend it to anybody. Folks that run it are like family, very friendly. Its about a 2 hr ride each way, though. Make sure you're prepared for a long baot ride.
We did the Sunny Days twice. Great day trip! Excellent snorkeling all around the fort, decent lunch, friendly staff. You can BYOB for the trip home. The first trip we did was smooth on the way out and 2-4 ft coming back. The boat has 1 small outside deck on the transom so your choices were to stay inside with the passengers tossing their cookies or outside sucking in diesel fumes. I chose the diesel. Next time, I'll spend the money and do the sea plane.

I would have chosen the same, diesel is better than puke! Does Sunny Days have a cat or a mono? I use to go snorkleing on there boat and it was a smaller cat.
We did the sunny days and camped on the island for five days. We brought two inflatable kayaks. If you have the time the kids will never forget a night on the island. Its very cool being there at night byyourself long after all the tourist have gone. The next day the sunny days will arive agin and bring you back to key west.
Barrell- I read that there are rats on the island and although controlled may go after your food. Did you see or have any problems with rats while on the island? Seems like it would be a great trip!
Not to hijack your thread, bit ff at all possible, I would consider flying out on the sea plane. We went out on the last flight of the day and when we got there the boats had already left so it was just us on the island. The flight is incredible.
