Default guns on boats yes or no

Should we take gus with us when we go offshore? I know some guys in South Florida who take .223 and or 12ga. pumps and or handguns. I never had thought about carrying a guns offshore before. I do take a gun when we go on the water or river here in MS because of all the crazy drunk rednecks. Are the offshore waters that dangerous with pirates robbing and stealing boats, they say it is I don't know. I've never had a problem with anyone. Please guys tell me what you think.

I guess it depends how far you are going. But just remember that if you bring a gun the people that are coming after you are probably carrying more and bigger guns.....

I am a gun owner/hunter but my firearms stay on the hard. No guns on the boat. Its fishing not hunting.

I have a CWP and yes, I do bring a hand gun on board. Especially the fact that I live and fish in the Miami metropolitan area.

Ditto. When I boat in the Puget Sound region I always carry some combination of handgun/long gun. Just transferred with boat to the Caribbean and plan on doing the same after I confirm it's legal (not concerned about U.S. Virgin Islands but others like British Virgin Islands are unknown to me in terms of regulations.)

For those looking for protection on the water I can recommend the Remington Marine Magnum 870 series shot guns. They're made to survive corrosive salt water conditions. Alternately you may be able to go with a standard security shot gun and one of the aftermarket floating cases (assuming it's waterproof.)

In my humble opinion, a cheap SKS sprayed down with T-9 is the best choice. Very little invested 150 bucks, it shoots a nice 30 cal round and it does not have that 30 yard or so limitation and I can carry either several magazines (if set up that way or 4 or 5 stripper clips of 10 rounds each

I fish off West Coast FL.....And I stay armed. Just incase. But for you guys on the East Coast esp. Miami-Dade I would be heavily armed off-shore

If you can legally carry a firearm onboard, it makes no sense not to be armed. I refuse to be a victim. I am always armed, land and sea.

I feel it is better to not have to wish you had a gun when you need it, then it is to regret that you didn't have one when you needed it.

Years ago never carried a fire arm, now days if I'm going to some remote places I do carry at least a pistol, hope I never have to actually use it, and it could be a great deterrent, but never fired drunks and other strange people.

Firm believer in the right to bear arms, and I do. But everyone should think of one thing first...if you're going to carry it, you must be prepared to use it. Some people carry weapons that would never use them if needed. Carrying one without that comfort can create even bigger problems.

Actually never have been an NRA member, but I am one of those guys that arrests bad guys. A gun gives you the opinion not be a victim if so confronted. We each make our own decisions in life. Perhaps you have heard of the charter boat "Joe Cool" out of Miami. If you haven't try Google. Have a Left wing day..

Cracker,

Very familiar with incident !!!

That was a charter boat taking on unknown paying guests on board.

Weapons would have probably saved the crews life !! I/m talking about on your private vessel.
Perhaps I jumped the "gun" and was only applying to private vessels ??

Going out again SAturday and lookin for Dolphin !!

I know of at least one vessel that has been approached by another blacked out vessel at night. The unknown boat circled the other oat for a few minutes then finally moved off. Its all about options.. (I said opinion in my previous post... DOH).
