I live near ATL (yeah... I'm sorry too). My rig is on a trailer and I NEED to know the quickest, most direct path to catch some Tuna! Is it via Destin, Daytona, Dauphin Island.......I haven't seen very many Tuna come out of Lanier!
I know somebody out there lives in ATL and trailers a boat to offshore fishing grounds........throw me a bone......please?
If you want to CATCH Tuna...Venice. If you want to HOPE TO catch Tuna...anywhere closer. FYI...It gets a little foggy making the run from Venice to the tuna grounds, so be prepared.
Go Northeast , young man , not Southwest. You did not specify what kind of Tuna. If you want Giant Bluefin--wait til winter, and go to Morehead City NC. Probably early to mid December.
If you go out Dauphin Island, Patronius is 72 miles due S, the Beer Can and Horse Shoe's are about 84/85 miles S/SW, Horne Mountain is 112 miles. Don't know what size boat you have but these are all doable and fog is usually not and issue from here. The closest deep blue water would be Destin or Pensicola, the White Marlin bite should be getting fired up here real soon and the fall Cobia run back to Florida should be in full swing at the end of September thru October. Good luck with your choice.
I used to live in Atlanta (yeah, you've got my utmost sympathies.....really, you do). When I lived there and wanted a tuna fix, the absolute easiest and quickest way was via the ATL airport to Cabo san Lucas - worked every single time!
