Default fort myers area info

Going to be going over to the fort myers area, was thinking about using Cape Coral yacht club park boat ramp. How is it? What other ones are in the area? Bringing over family and some kids any good place to beach it or anchor and swim? How hard is it to get to the cayo costa state park dock? Any other info would help? Restaurants or any other fun stuff to do on the water.
Thanks

Not real sure about the ramps. Cayo Costa is a pretty easy ride, just make sure you bring a chart, or better yet, bring a chart and your chartplotter! I have charts for the area that I am willing to let you borrow, if you promise to give them back. They are a few years old, and therefore, probably a bit outdated, but good enough to keep you in the chanel. PM me if you're interested. If you're in Ft. Laud, can't be too far from me. I am in Pompano Beach on the east side of town.

As far as restaurants, there is one at the Sanibel Marina called Gramma Dots. Not bad. There is also a very fun ride (just past Cayo Costa) to Cabbage Key. The food is expensive, the drinks are expensive, but the ambience is very cool. Supposedly what "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was written about. Either way, it's a cool ride w/ the kids.

Sanibel or Ft. Myers beach is probably the best place to beach it if you want to see other people... Cayo Costa is nice if you want solitude.

Also, you can do a search for Ft. Myers in this section. There are some locals that have posted some cool places to go in the past. My memory ain't that great that I can remember the places named.

Ramp is a double lane concrete. Launched a 29ft Pursuit from there. Parking could be an issue depending upon the day of the week or a holiday. A short Putt Putt out to the main channel on the river and then the run to Sanibel or Cayo Costa. You can also go upriver all the way then to the Atlantic if you want. There is a beach at the Cape Coral Yacht Club but it is on the river and not the Gulf. Picnic Island is a nice place to beach and mess around, but beware the approach, local knowledge is best.

Also get a map and study the bouy numbers, they do get confusing some times seemingly backwards as to where you think your going.

Some good restaurants in the Cape, but overall it's a bedroom community.

Cabbage Key has a good burger joint. Don't have huge expectations though. The dock master was a prick to us because we didn't tip him. But he didn't do anything except stand on the dock.

If you feel like going across the harbor Gasparilla Island is nice to beach off of.

For as much waterfront as we have here restaurants are lacking in a big way. The local politico's seemingly make things more favorable for over priced high rise condo's that all the investors bail on rather than dining and entertainment. Go figure.

for cabbage key, you can beach a trailer boat, no problem. twards the left where sand is soft or use docks to the left at no pay. I never use the big docks.

After grabbing a burger at cabbage key head north on ICW for less than a mile on the left is Pelican Bay, can beach it neat little lagoon for the kids, or you could go to the Cayo Costa State Park docks and take the shuttle buggy over to the gulf. Beautiful beach. If you dont feel like making the run to Cabbage key you can pull into Tween Waters Inn, dock it and use the facilities i.e. pool also kiddie pool, tiki bar and music on sundays. Across the street is a beautiful beach as well.
