Default Bahia honda to gulf

We will be staying at BahiaHonda park over the christmas holliday. I have looked at charts that show a marked channel to the gulf .

anybody have any experience with this channel ? how deep? Weather permiting may make a run to Bonita Springs.

Bahia Honda Channel is a short deep channel that empties into Big Spanish Channel that goes all the way to Harbor Key Bank in the gulf. There are day markers but some may be missing since Wilma. Their may be a few spots with less than 6 foot of water for short distances.

Man, that will be a sweet trip. Tough to get those x-mas reservations there. Enjoy. Stayed there about 20+ years ago. Woke up to birds singing most mornings. One morning we were startled out of bed by 2 Air Force jets that were flying extrememly low. It was awesome. You can do some excellent surf fishing also.

If you're new to that area remember the bottom is hard, hard, etc... Stick to the channels if in any doubt since shallow areas are not very forgiving.

Might make a run to Bonita Springs, is that near Bonita Beach on the west coast? If it is better make sure you have plenty of time, because It could take you a week or more to make a run back to the Keys if the weather turns for the worst.

Yes it isaround 20 miles north of naples. This is where the boat is stored for the winter. may have the wife drive the truck and empty trailer to bonita. will keep a close eye on the weather if we make the trip .

I work at Bahia Honda as a captain on the dive boat. Stop by if you need any help with local knowledge of the area. The run through the back country is a great trip. You may also want to check out Looe Key Reef, 9.5 miles SW of the park. It's very good snorkeling.
