Well you'll not be far from one of the most productive tarpon grounds - Boca Grande. This was also one of the world's hot spots for hammer head sharks. Lot's of inshore fishing to keep you busy. Of course it's the Gulf, so be prepared for some long offshore hauls for rig fishing (not sure you've got the range or not).

Have fun and good luck!

There's plenty of sharks in Pine Island Sound, not all that big, and usually, you'll just either be getting lucky, or unlucky, catching them (depends on if you want them or not) However, the inshore angling out there is awesome. I love it out there because you don't get tossed around by big wave action and it's extremely scenic and it's just really pretty out there. Congratulations on your move.

Trailer to the Pine Island sound area near Bokelia is the quickest way to get to Boca Grande and the PI Sound area otherwise its a long trip.
If you're buying on a canal, get out a map and figure out how many manatee zones are between you and the Gulf at Sanibel or turning up into the Pine Island Sound area or the intercoastal. And the closer to the Gulf or intercoastal the higher the price. There is a lot of SLOW manatee zones getting out to fishing grounds if you have to run the river so IMHA trailering a boat might make more sense.
You also might want to ck Cape Coral out a little further as the Taxes and local gov't leave something to be desired. Add that to gangs and grow houses that the local police say is not a problem IS getting many residents attention.

You don't always have to run as far a Boca. I took a 200 pound Tarpon last spring between Sanibel and Pine Island where the Power lines cross.

Hi LD,

Bought a nice house in the Cape last week. Its new and was custom built for a guy that decided he would rather own a condo. Its on SW 25th street, off of Pine Island road and about 5 minutes from Matlacha. Settlement on on Feb 24th and I can wait to start drowning bait. My realtor spent 1 whole day giving me a tour of the Cape and i like it alot. I would love to be on the water but my max price was 300K and nice waterfront started at around 500K. Thanks for the advice you gave me!

Welcome to Cape Coral. Ignore the naysayers and enjoy your new home. You won't have to venture far to enjoy excellent fishing and just beautiful boating scenery. Manatee zones are inshore and after a few minutes run you are in open waterl The slow zones allow you to watch bald eagles nesting, dolphins playing, and the things true watermen enjoy about being on a boat. Seasons dictate the fish available, though sharks, trout, redfish (drum), and snook are here year-round, with snapper, sheepshead, grouper and others thrown in for good measure. Welcome!
