Rented house on canal in Islamorada; now need the boat; aprox 20' cc. How to arrange for rental? Local marina, rent in Miami area & haul it down, other choices? Thanks for the help.
Try qualityboats.net, talk to David.Tell him Capt. Eric sent you. He's a very honest/fair guy, has boats from 19'- 29' and if i'm not mistaken will deliver to Islamorada for free but check his website or contact him to make sure. His #'s are 305-743-2895/ cell 305-360-2780
Make sure to get a couple of good maps of the area. There are plenty of tricky area's with shallow water and reefs. I must say I'm jealous, cause a month in the Keys will be great! Good luck on your trip and enjoy!!
Boating in the Florida Keys is definitly graduate level small boating. Plenty of fun to be had, even for a relative novice, but you MUST have local charts and use them if you aren't planning on buying the marina a new prop or spending the day aground, waiting for the next high tide.
Sea Bird Marina on the Miami side of Long Key has been very good with boat rentals. A little far from Islamorada about 12 miles or so depending on where you are staying.

I can't give much advise on boat rentals but I'll be making the trip north again from Key West next week. If you figure out a place you might be interested in renting from, I'll stop by on the way North and check out their boats or take a picture if you want. Let me know.
You also don't mention where you are coming from...but if you need info on Florida fishing licenses and rules: http://myfwc.com/fishingareas.html
I think the FWC pays a little closer attention to visitors than they do the locals (who they see out all the time and know), so make sure you are working within the law.
A few years ago in Islamorada I docked next to a guy that had rented a beautiful new 20' Boston Whaler dual console from Caribee Marine. It was the nicest rental boat I've seen. Don't know if they still do it. It's right in the heart of Islamorada, on the bay side.
I had a problem with qualityboatrentals.com, used them 5 years ago and had them come back for the boat. Since have had good times using jeffs boat rentals in marathon, new equiptment and taken care. This year rented from Big Time boat rentals at Big Time Tackle in Marathon again and will deffinatly use them again. Most places will deliver for a fee, good luck.
I just called their toll free number and got their recording. 1-888-FLA-KEYS
Good Luck! Used them many times on my trips down before I bought my new boat. Book as early as you can, availability gets slim real quick.
Hi if you are going to be in Islamorada for a month you might want to consider checking out my site and I can probly make you a good deal on charters for the month for less than it will cost you for the rental. Don't for get every day that the weather is bad you still have to pay the rental and fuel, repairs, and if you get stuck on a flat the fines are heavy. I go back Country and off shore. http://captlenrobertstailsup.com/

Steelhead - 5 years ago is a long time to hold a grudge.
There have been many changes in the boat rental business since then.
Lot's of good boat rental businesses such as Quality Boat Rentals, Jeff's Boat Rentals, Capt. Hooks Marina, Vacation Boat Rentals, Rays Rentals, Jerry's Rentals to name some. I'd give them all a call and see what you think. Have Fun and Stay Safe!
