Random Quote: Bragging may not bring happiness, but no man having caught a large fish, goes home through the alley.
My wife and I are thinking of making a 3 or 4 day trip to Savannah this winter to meet up with friends of ours who live in the Atlanta area.
Any suggestions on places to stay, things to do? Is there decent inshore fishing in the January or February timeframe? If so, any recommended light tackle guides?
Stay downtown, but get directions to "Tubbies tank house" in Thunderbolt. Great seafood place to eat and usually has a bend on Saturday nights. Send me a PM before you come to town.

My family and I stayed recently at The East Bay Inn which is in the historic district, right across the street from River Street. It's older but very clean and has some character to it. My brother turned me on to it. He is a world famous (right) historic preservationist and always finds neat little places to stay.
There are many great restaurants within walking distance. Two of the more famous areMother and Two Sons (you NEED reservations way ahead of time - book now) and try Mrs. Wilkes for a neat lunch served family style. River Street has lots of great shops. Our favorite was the candy store - it huge.
We took a walking ghost tour that lasted about a hour and a half and it was fun. Fished up in Hilton Head (about 1/2 hour away) and caught lots of fun fish.
Also, Racheal Ray did a special on Savannah on her $40/day on the Food Network. Check out the website for her recommendations.
Mrs Wilkes is closed and it is Lady and Sons.both are and were great places to eat...
River street has my 2 favorite places 2 eat The Oyster bar and Olympia Cafe if you like Greek...
No, Mrs. Wilkes is open. Mrs. Wilkes and Lady and Sons are different people, different restaurants. Check out websites and call them if you have questions.
My wife and I stayed B&B is called The Amethyst in at Sarah’s Garden: http://www.aiasg.com/ We really liked it because of homey atmosphere and very friendly people. It is a few blocks from river street, but still in the historic district which makes for great walking to and from river street, and all around.
I think it is still owned by Rocky and Jane Reed (really niced folks). We were introduced to this place by our son who used to live in Savannah.
We've also stayed in hotels on river street. When I go back I'll do the B&B route.

By all means go to Mrs. Wilkes..been going there since it was $1.50/person. If the front is busy..(duh)..get a carry-out from the back door. The Crystal Beer Parlor appears to be re-opened. Great setting.
How to tell where someone is from in Georgia:
"Hi, what do you do?" Atlanta
Hi, who's your Grandma"? Augusta
"Hi, want a drink"? Savannah
The Lady and Sons and Uncle Bubba's Oyster House are Paula Deen's restaurants; my wife would definitely want to go there.
This will seem like heresy but skip Uncle Bubba's.
I'd say skip The lady and Sons too but as a married man I know you'll have to compromise somewhere. Uncle Bubba's is one of the worst seafood places I've ever been to.
Mrs. Wilkes, Nita's(rip) and the United House of Prayer are my choices for straight up Southern fare but the Lady and Son's has the star power.
Hit The Breakfast Club for breakfast on Tybee, Tubby's (in Thunderbolt) to see where the sportfisherman hang, Hang Fire (for PBR), The Casimir Lounge (in the mansion) for Martinis, The Rib Hut or Angels (for BBQ)...
Yup, I live here too. Skip Bubba's. Consider Barbara Jeans which is nearby. The Lady and Sons use to be pretty good, but I cant see waiting in line (sometimes a block or more).
Ditto on Tubby's. On River Street there is Huey's for New Orleans fare as well as the Cobblestone Conch House which has a nice menu. The Chart House is a small chain but I think they are good. Lots of other choices.
fiddlers crab house on the river has the best deal in town on monday nights, all u can eat crab legs for 22 bucks. I go frequently and wear them out, definitly get my $$ worth for serious crab leg eaters...

My wife and I were down this summer. We stayed at the DoubleTree in the Historic District. One block off the river. Excellent hotel and service. As far as places to dine, The Lady and Sons was our biggest disappointment on this trip. Many good places to dine on the waterfront and be sure to check out the pralines.
