I’ve been saltwater & freshwater fishing nearly all of my life and have used a buffet of reels, Garcia, Penn, Shimano yadda yadda. A few years ago I was in a Large Mouth Bass Fishing tournament and tried a friends Quantum Catalyst Reel and fell in love with it. I did some research and would up buying a Quantum Energy PTi spinning reel for about $140.00. Since then I have bought 3 of these suckers and I love them. They are all the small ones 10’s for mainly fresh and brackish water fishing.
I have been trolling for stripers for a few weeks now and decide I am going to see how the chum works for me. Yesterday I went to Bass Pro shop to get a medium spinning rod/reel for heading out on the bay this weekend with. I was looking at a Quantum Boca PTI spinning reel for about 189.00 dollars which is a rugged saltwater spinning reel and decide to just get YET ANOTHER Quantum Energy PTi reel. I bought the size 40 this time being I intend to use it for salt water. I rigged it up on a Ugly Stick (striper series) I know this is not a saltwater reel but I feel the fishing on it will hold up just fine if I take care of it and clean it up after each use. The reel features a hi-temp titanium deposition coating.
Anyone else have any comments or suggestions they can share on this subject or even better more specifically, using this reel for salt water?
Here’s a link to an online review if you’re not familiar with the reel.
