We use J hooks

try frenzy hooks. they set fast, never a gut hook. i tried eagle claw lazer sharp out of 8 fish...2 gut hooks.

never had a gut hook or missed strike with frenzy

Circle hooks the only way to go.Just have to learn to NOT set the hook.

Circle hooks cannot be beat. I also use them for Tuna and Live baiting for Marlin. Do not set the hook like a J hook, I gradually increase the drag as the fish runs away. It is also nice that when bottom fishing you can basically set the line and leave it to do something else.
