Around here they're 12k new, not 15 or 16--got a quote last night for 23.5k for a pair. I'd like to have your engines, but no disrespect, I think they are over priced. Quote was from Cajun Outboards, but you can find them similarly priced elsewhere

Around here (Tampa Bay area) they would go for about 7k each...... 175 hours is considered used so 60% of new cost is about right.

I will never understand why people put their comments in a thread when they have no intention of buying.

Maybe because people are not really sure what their stuff is worth....... Would you pay more for a used item or a new item???

Default RE: 2005 Mercury Saltwater OptiMax Engines for Sale

Trayder--where have I done that???

Yes I've been looking for a while, but that's b/c I have engines that run great--I'd like more power but am willing to wait for a good deal. I can run mine for the time being. If the guy needs to unload the engines I'm sure he would respond to me. Otherwise, he'll sit on them and wait for someone to pay his asking price, which is fine--I'm just not going to be the one to pay it. I'm in a fortunate position of not NEEDING motors. If you don't think I'm a serious buyer--I don't care. If you want info to back up quotes call Scott @ Cajun Outboards(225)-749-6006. For the record, I'd like 225 optis--in warranty and I'm not going to pay 22k. If I can't find them--so be it. The last thing I'm here to do is highjack a thread(which seems to have happened) and tell somebody they're out of whack on their price when I have no interest in their product. If it means so much to you, in the future I'll email the seller--I just thought that was the reason for the reply button on a forum. This is a forum, which by description and definition welcomes feedback, if you don't want feedback from potential buyers, you don't use this format. It's very simple. Trayder, I've been here a long time, and have always been positive on this forum. For the time I've been here,I haven't posted very much(mostly b/c I type so slow!) so I try to contribute only on things that matter to me or when I can help someone. Your post here did neither.

Al--sorry that your thread was thrown off-it wasn't my intention.

Wow, didn't mean to create such a stir with our ad.

Here are a few things to consider when you are price shopping: (1) make sure you are pricing a "Saltwater" OptiMax, (2) the counter-rotating engine is generally more $ (up to $1,000 more), (3) include 5 - 7 % sales tax on engine if purchased from a dealer, (4) confirm whether or not props are included.

Honestly, I didn't try to find the absolute lowest price of a new 2005 engine when I put the reference price in our ad...the price you see is the typical full service dealer selling price. I did a quick Internet scan and found a 2005 Saltwater OptiMax for $13,895 at one the largest Mercury dealers in US:

http://www.kenyonpowerboats.com/moutosalt.htm#225

Feel free to call or email if you are interested in one or both of our engines.

I bought the starboard engine. It is in pristene condition almost no corosion. That is hard to find on a motor that has 167 hrs of saltwater use on them. The cowlings are blemish FREE. Al and Brent are super nice guys and are true to their word. I got a great deal. WHOEVER buys the port will be as happy as I am! ! ! The motors have TWO YEARS and 3 MONTHS FACTORY WARRENTY left on them too. Hogbreath3
