I have 4 of the 30's that I use for king mackerel and I love them, I haven't had a problem with them yet, however we use very light drag...

Maybe the mods will move this post... Re-?- Toriums have a lot of small parts & IMO they aren't terribly durable for bottom fishing. The Saltist has been a popular, cheaper & more durable alternative for lots of folks. I think for kingfishing & other light drag applications they would be great... I have a friend that bought a full set of Toriums for his charter boat & he said it was a big mistake, as he's constantly repairing them...

Default torium 30

Last fall, this reel hauled in a 185 Bluefin tuna in 25 minutes. It was no problem for this reel and it had adequate drag. 65# braid and a 12' fluoro topshot got the deal done. Convincing enough for me to add two torium 30's to the jigging arsenal. Mostly Shimano and some Penn!

Default torium

great king rod, terrible bottom fishing rod if you want alot of drag. you feel it when the anti-reverse goes out.

The torrium line is a good reel with a few problems.
#1 the factory drags SUCK they will burn up and melt making a wicked mess if you push them. If you own a Torium invest the 20 bucks and upgrade it to Greased carbon fiber drag washers.

#2 Is the anti reverse. It is known to let go this is a 2 part problem. Alan T. has some good info on it here. http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=509.0 I did the drag and anti reverse pawl and spring upgrades as recomended.

Thx. I'm looking to upgrade the drag, but I thought the anti reverse issue was a problem for 2005 reels and older?

Default Torium

I have not had good luck with the toriums. I have blown the guts out of two 30's. I will never buy another one of them. I really like the Tyrnos though. It seems to be a much better built reel. For bottom fishing, you can't beat the Daiwa Saltist for the price. They are better built for that application.
