Default WTB Merc 225 Optimax w/ 20" shaft

I'm looking for a new or used (not older than 2007) 225 Optimax w/ 20" shaft. Any feedback would be appreciated.

You bought the Sport XS? Curious what you are putting it on to run the sportmaster. If it is a heavy boat, you may want to swap out for the Torque master.

I have the TM gearcase.

Great motor and price on Ebay.

Its going on a 1978 BW Revenge. Fairly light boat.

Really? Now that is an odd match. The Sporty is designed for 85 mph
+ surfacing applications.

That will be one cool whaler though. I'm curious how it will work on that hull.

I think the Sportmaster is a 1.62 gear ratio, so keep that in mind when propping.

My dad runs through 8-12" water depth (depends on the Atchafalaya R stage) getting to his camp/duck lease. So I wanted to get him in a motor that had low water pickups. This package was just a deal I couldn't pass. I'll be rigging it on a hydraulic jackplate.

It is a 1.62. It looks like a 19p will be a good starting point. I have mirage plus 19s on my mako as well as rev 4 19s and tempest 21s in the garage so we should be able to get a good idea on the prop from all my prop inventory.

FWIW we have a friend who has the same hull with a yamaha VMAX 225. He's had pretty good results. Its a 60+ mph boat with that motor. I think this Merc should do low to mid 60s for us.

I hope to get all the parts in this week and have it rigged by next sunday. I'll post a report with pics of the rigging.

Anyone want to buy a 1993 johnson 225 in running condition but reverse is not working. Will post pics of that soon.

Good deal. Almost wish mine was having problems so I could have justified buying it.

Hey, does anyone know what kind of harness this motor uses? Is it the usual 8 pin or something different?

Don't want to give bad info. Not sure what the 2007 will use compared to my 2006. A smartcraft setup will be worth the money as well.

That is going to be a sweet Whaler setup. Think you are right, a 19 mirage plus should be a good prop to start with.

Going to get the motor today. They are trying to crawfish on the deal. They claim they had someone who was trying to get financing for it on Friday... blah blah blah. I bet they didn't think it would go at the starting bid via ebay. Its at Ascension Marine.

Got the motor this afternoon. They lost their ass on it. She told me they never expected it to go for under 12,500 and they had a guy waiting on financing to get the motor at that price. But they honored their ebay auction price.

Ends up they just wanted the motor out of the shop before Monday so they didn't have to explain why they wouldn't sell it to the other guy.

I'll post pics this coming weekend of the installation. Be on teh look out. Thanks for the heads up. This is one of those deals that people like me never get... in fact the motor is my dad's, so he had to pay the bill today.

Did you get this whaler rigged and tested? Curious to hear how it runs.
