If you wish to see the condition of the band you should take a picture holding the watch with the band going out at a ninety degree angle. The band should not be supported. That way it is easy to see how worn the band is.

Good luck.

Yes, it was built in 1979 and sold in 1980.

Rolex replaced the crystal at original spec, not plastic.

Here are band pics taken yesterday. Anyone want to make an offer? Reduced to $7,900 and willing to negotiate on price.

You may want to look at timezone.com and watchnet.com and maybe even rolexforums.com as well. That band can be repaired.

Repaired? It looks that bad? It has a little play in it, but didn't think it was that big of a deal.

Actually all Rolex watches had acrylic (plastic) crystals until the late 70's (I think) when they switch to sapphire. Vintage Rolex purists prefer the plastic over sapphire.

Good info. Why would the plastic be preferred?

Getting a lot of feedback about the band. Rolex added 3 extra links to this band and when it was sent back in August this year it was also brought back up to spec.
