I know this sounds crazy, but I actually prefer my engines to be out of warranty so I do not have to deal with Mercury and a dealer. If there is ever an issue, I can order the part online and have it overnighted to my house. But, If I owned a modern 4 stroke I would have a hard time sleeping at night without a warranty. The opti's are simple engines and if anything goes wrong its easy to diagnose and repair.

I was talking with Alden Thornton about his take on the reliabilty of the 300's since he has owned twice as many as I have. He has owned 20 300 opti's and he runs them WOT basically everywhere he goes. He said he has only had one powerhead failure that was caused by water ingestion from a leaking hose under the hood. I also know that Miss LA is running stronger than ever on the original 2006 300 opti's that have seen a ton of hours and abuse.

With the Sportmaster gearcases, as long as water stays out of the gearcases, you are gonna have a tough time popping one b/c they are designed to take a beating.

Also, all 8 of the engines I have for sale have never been raced or seen any tournament abuse.

Stump,

Don't know if you are serious or joking but I'm shopping for 225s.

The '08 20's are under contract. So, there is now only one pair available. The '08 25" shafts.

Default '08 25" shafts

How much for the '08 25" shafts? RH or LH rotation?

Thanks

They are 21k for the pair. One RH and one LH. They both have sportmaster gearcases and offshore mids. The external trim pumps and hoses are included. They also include a rigging tube kit.

The 20's are still available

I spoke with Mercury this morning and they will still offer either the 1 or 2 year extended warranties on all 4 of the low hour engines.

Prop,
I currently have a 30" motor I believe. Its a 225 Opti. How does the length compare to what you have? I am up two holes from being all the way down.

I may try to get serious about selling my 2003 225 Opti (shamless plug) and get into one of your 300's. Just a bad week to think about this.

If you have a 30", then you need a 25" sporty either mounted all the way down or up a couple holes. It would be sweet to see a 25' fountain throwing a rooster tail at 60 mph.

Default 2008 300 xs 20"

1 pair 2008 300 xs with 25" Sportmaster gearcases with 38 hours

I will sell them for 21k per pair, your pick

Typically, 25" sportmaster gearcases will fit transoms that require 25-30" shaft engines, and 20" Sportmaster gearcases will fit transoms that require 20-25" shaft engines.

The Sportmaster gear cases are the heavy duty ones. They have the same parts that go into a Bravo1 stern drive gearcase.

The price includes new trim pumps and hoses

The 300 opti's are the most fuel efficient engines on the market. I have owned 10 of them and they have been extremely reliable. I just purchased these 08's and I need to sell 4 of them. The 07's are on my boat and can be sea-trialed

Do you still have the pair 20" Mercury 2008 300 xs for sale? If so, I would like to get some more information. What will be the best way to contact you or you can contact me at
571-233-5154?
