Yea, I don't know if I have the same stuff you are talking about,,,, but sounds like the same idea I have. We have this exstreamly stong hard velcro like material we use to mount our cameras on our helmets for filming our guys during freefall, (skydiving) you need a flat head screw driver to pry between the two surfaces to get it off,,, not easy at all.....

CaptKennyW......Yes they are 12V and can be connected directly to 12V. I am planning to put a few feet of wire with each one, thats way more than any other marine electrical product gives you, you're lucky if they give you 6". I know way too, I just spent over 100.00 for 100' of marine wire, I have to find a cheaper source. The manufacture of these LEDs claims that you can get 50,000 hours out of these lights, If my case can keep the water out I can't see any reason why they won't last that long. The lights come with two holes so you can mount it with a couple of screws, thats how its mounted on my engine bracket. But I'm sure you can epoxy it on or maybe use 5200.

BigBone.....yes...a lot of light reflects off the lower units....dams E-Tecs! I mounted the light there so I can clean it without swimming. I would rather have mounted it on the transom under the bracket, but then I can't keep it clean. I don't see any reason why you couldn't mount it on some kind of wedge. But if you mount it deeper it will be much better. All the underwater light manufactures make them so theh shoot straight back. Mine looks like that because I put it so close to the surface.

Yup....I will continue making them. I just want to get this first batch out.

Guys....I was hoping to have these shipped out by Tuesday but there will be a slight delay. A forum member PMed me and brought up a good point. Condensation, I haven't had any problem with mine but to be safe I ordered a bulk pail of Silica Gel Desiccant packets to put inside each unit. I did some tests without them and didn't see any condensation but I want to be sure there are no problems. That pushes shipping back till Friday which sucks because unless you want to go with overnight shipping it may not arrive until after Christmas. Sorry guys, I hope its not a huge inconvienence, I just want to make sure you get a good prduct.

As of this morning mine has been underwater for a week and it is still dry and working.

Chris,

How cool!! You are the man, indeed.

I don't know much about lumens but it occurs to me that a 100 watt light bulb that has 1,700 lumen (assuming that is correct) radiates its light in ALL directions, up, down and 360 degrees where the led lights you use are much more directional. I'm sure no rocket scientist but I think this would have a SIGNIFICANT bearing on things. Maybe 360 lumens of directional led light are as bright as 1700 lumens of light that radiate in every direction???

So can you tell us what the final diminsions are of the new slim units?
And finally, would that wire you just bought be tinned wire by chance?

Thanks,

Ken

weed.line........my turnaround on new orders is going to be just after the new year and I do have Pay Pal. Once I get the first batch out I can begin working on a new batch. I can take your order now though.

prokvoan.....sorry to hear about your back, thats what you get for killing a warm blooded animal..JK There should be no problem getting your lights to you before the new year. BTW...what happen to that nice butt on your sig?

Red Neck 25.......After all my research I am still not sure how to calculate these lumens but I can tell you that this thing is much brighter than a 100W household lightbulb and more directional.

I am planning to go fishing Friday night, hopefully the weather is good. I will be out in clear ocean water with my camera and will take a few pics. But first I think I will pull out the owners manual and see what it says about taking pics at night.

Have you tried this place?

http://www.bestboatwire.com/

They are in S. Fl and will have the wire to you in a day or so.

I may have missed it, but what are the dimensions of the housing?

Cooper....I tried to go fishing but it was way to rough, NOAA said 2 feet or less near shore, they were off by about 6 feet. We had to turn back so we didn't catch anything but an @$$ kicking. So no new pics, but I will tell you that they look great in clear water.

weed.line.....I have you down for 3 and I will PM you.

Lazy Bones.....I haven't tried that place yet, but I will be ordering from them this week, others have recomended them as well. The dimensions are 6 3/8 X 2 5/8, thats the footprint of the base. The housing is 5 1/4 X 2 1/4 X 1" deep.

This is the first production unit, I am using this one for testing. I held it underwater in the pool as deep as the 3' wire would allow for 24 hours and took it out and layed it in the sun...no condensation and no silica packs. But I will be putting silica packs in all the lights just to be safe. I will be shipping themm out at the end of this week.

I will be starting a new batch after Christmas for new orders and they will ship out 1-2 weeks after that.

Where could I mount these on a 27 World Cat? I guess they would have to be behind the engine? Hmm...

Yeah...you would have to mount one on each sponson. Possibly just inside each engine so its not right behind it?

Best Boat Wire is the place....They are very helpful. I have what i think is a legitimate question. What happens if i buy a few and then after two months use they quit working? Do you have a return policy/money back guarantee? Thanks

You are buying a homemade project from a small guy in a garage, typically there is no guarentee. Its like buying something from a garage sale. But thats not how I operate.

Yes, I will stand behind my work. But there is no money back guarentee. If the light stops working send it back to me so I can determine why. If it leaks due to my worksmanship I will send a new one out pronto. If it looks like it was banged and cracked then there might be a problem, but I will still work with you, but you would have to cover the cost of the LEDs, about $65.00. I would cover the labor and other materials to get you a new light.

As I stated in my disclaimer in an above post, this is a homemade project being put together in my garage and the transaction should be treated as such. However.....if something goes wrong with the light I will be here to help. If it fails due to my worksmanship within a reasonable amount of time I will stand behind it. What is a reasonable amount of time? I would say a year or so.
