Inhot - understood, but do some research on that - it's not uncommon, especially when repowering, as it lets you use the more widely available 25" motors on a shallower boat.
People swear by "real" jackplates, which not only move the motor up and down, but also set it 4-6" further off the back of the transom. These brackets move the motor back all of 5/8", and has the beneficial side effect of putting the powerhead 5" higher off the water.
As it was set up with the motor mounted directly on the transom the steering cable came directly out of the hole in the bulkhead of the boat into the steering bracket on the motor. It was aligned laterally and horizontally.
Placing the motor on a bracket that is both set back and raised up would cause the steering cable to have to be directed aft and up.
I'm not sure if that would be a problem or not and therein lies my concern.
