I've been a Rural Carrier Associate for about 3 months. The Jeep is awesome, but the route I was given has too much volume. Its the heaviest route at my Post Office. Absolutly nothing wrong with the Jeep, just too small for my route.

I am not looking to purchase the vehicle, but I know some online rural carrier forums that might be a better location to post this. I myself am also a Rural Carrier...from massachusetts.

Hey guys
The USPS around here is Hiring and I was thinking about putting in a application.
Can you answer a few questions ?
How long have you been delivering mail? Do you like the job?
What are your hours?
Where did you start
I was also thinking of the UPS service but they start you with no benefits and part time employment

Thanks for your time
Jason

I actually wokred for UPS from 1995 - 2001. I started PT, but had Full benefits. At the point of being offered FT work, I had built a business that presented a better oportunity, so I left. In late 2005, I sold that business. I decided to apply for a Rural Carrier position @ the Postal Service a year ago. I got offered my job in March. I like it better than UPS, but its not an easy job. RCA (rural carrier associates) are hired as a primary substitute carrier for ONE route...meaning 1 day per week. Then you learn other routes, so that you can be asked to fill in on those at times. I think it varies at every office as far as how many hours you'll get. Pay is $17.51 / hour and .48 mile. Some Rural routes have a Postal vehicle assigned to them.
Hope that helps.
