The 5212 measures 13.0" x 9.5" x 4.7"
1242 measures 14.1" x 8.9" x 2.7"

You will need a trim ring to make up for the height difference

Do you have any of these on display? I'd like to actually play with one before ordering.

Considering purchasing the GPSMAP® 1242xsv for my center console and need help choosing the best transducer. Mostly bottom fishing offshore in Gulf 80 - 175', with the occasional run to the rigs for tuna in over 1800' (only looking down 300-400'). What transducer do you recommend? Would the GT50M-TM be a good fit? Thanks.

The GT50 would be good for the inshore but not the offshore work. You will if only doing 1 transducer be better off with the GT51. Better yet would be to add a B175HW for the tuna.

Any complaints with the 1242xsv? Strongly considering getting one for my boat.

I've just put 2 1242xsv's in a fountain with b175m. I Bottom fish and troll offshore... it is a very good setup and I highly recommend the 1242's. The coolest thing I've done with them is setup the wifi. Did it today and up loaded all my routes and waypoints off of my iPhone. Pretty slick!!!
